Greetings all,
So in the next couple months after buying a new guitar, I really want a looper to help my soloing and improvising. To work on different modes over chords etc.
However, is it worth buying:
1. A delay pedal with a looper built in? Many do have this function.
2. A looper on its own. like a boss rc-2.
3. A recorder such as the micro br or something similar.
Thoughts on this? It wouldn't be for live use, just for practice in the bedroom kinda thing. And if you haven't noticed I'm trying to find something decently cheap.. ?

A delay with a looper built in is always going to be a bit limited compared to a dedicated looper. Still, look at the Eventide, which has a decent looper built in. I certainly wouldn't look at less than that (plus it's arguably the best stomp delay on the market).
A looper is optimised for live performance, but even for practice will be a lot easier to use and just throw things together on the fly to solo over.
A recorder is the ultimate practice tool, but is not as easy/quick to use (although units like the BR with drum machines built in make it relatively easy to throw stuff together). You also get to practice putting together music, recording techniques, arrangement and everything. Quite importantly, for the most part you learn to work with metronomes/clicks/drums in the recording process, which you don't playing with a looper.

Hmm... So i'm leaning towards a micro br kinda thing. I've wanted a rc-2 for the longest time, but I just can't justify paying R2000 on a stomp box that is pretty limited in its functions.
Where as the micro br is a pretty decent recorder too, which is cool.
I figured the delays would be limiting. And delay pedals are EXPENSIVE! haha..
