The inlay near the controls is an owl (upside down in the pic). You can see it better if you look at the pic before the forum resizes it for display:
http://ratcliffe.co.za/sundry/sanox/new.jpg. The original control layout was Les Paul style and the owl hides the extra hole. The MOP/abalone inlay in the upper right of the pic covers the original hole for the three way.

The thing is the hole is already there (behind the bridge) and I don't need it for the new control layout. I think mounting a dummy pot will look lame and it's difficult to match up a goldtop finish (especially a polyester one), so I don't want to try hide it. So my other option is to put in another switch of some type. Killswitches are fun and relatively unobtrusive, so I was thinking one of those, mostly to just to fill the hole, but also for some occasional silliness.
