I've bought a second hand ESP today. Finally I have a hardtail again. I really needed that.
It play like a dream, and it looks like a dream. My Jackson finally got a rival that comes very close.

Nice! An LP with a stomach contour, strap locks, Sperzels - bliss! ? Which model is this? The top's maybe a bit too bling (it's a fine line for me), but still amazing... Well finished - the slight burst is nice and the double staining also seems to burst a bit.

Are the EMG's stock? I ask because it's unusual to have cream switch cap and gold top hat knobs with black pickup rings.

Haha, now there's something I can identify with as I get older: it's no longer a "body contour"; it's now a "stomach contour".

It's a stock ESP Eclipse II lawsuit version. The top is less bling in real life, but i had to use flash because it was dark when i came home with it. The last picture shows pretty much how it looks normally.

Lol! It's still a body contour - they all are, but you can subdivide body contours into forearm, stomach and neck access. But then again... I suppose there is a market for a "full-bodied contour" ?

As I said it's a fine line. It's also personal taste. Heavy flame is also fine in many cases, but the big, billowing quilt thing is often a bit much for me when it's double-stained. Some guys will accept a goldtop as perfect, but find the merest hint of figuring "too much".

What is double staining?

It's a way of accenting figuring. You stain the wood with a darker colour dye stain (not a pigment stain) and then sand most of it out again. Some gets left behind in the figuring, which is more visible when viewed from a specific angle. Then you stain over the top again with a lighter colour, seal and start with your shader and/or toner colour coats over the top. If you look at the PRS Tiger Eye finishes (and similar) - those are all double-stained.

In the ESP above, judging by the third pic (the flash reveals more than the more natural looking final pic) they have stained with a dark amber, then with a lighter amber, then used a red toner over the entire finish (why it looks red in the final pic) and then done some additional red bursting around the edges. The way the different layers of colour show up under different lighting is why they look so 3D when they move in lighting.

I've found myself looking at the LTD1000 with Duncans before, as an SA available Les Paul substitute.

Top end LTD's are really sweet guitars. Very good value for money. But still not what a real esp is. Price raises exponentially with the quality. It's up to you to decide how high you wanna go.

It was a reply to Banditman who said he was looking to buy an LTD. I meant that if you want a bit more quality, the price tag can get alot more expensive. It's up to you to decide how much you want to pay for how much quality...

I just really dislike the exagerated abalone bindings and inlays in the LTD 1000 series. If that wouldn't have been the case, I'd probably have a LTD EC1000 right now.

Oh I see...so the LTD's are the Chinese guitars and the ESP's are the Japanese...correct?

LTD is made in Korea and Indonesia, ESP is Japan.
