Can you seriously imagine the anarchy if people knew, not speculated, but really knew the clock was to run out in a few months time?
Ever Read Nevil Shute's book
On The Beach. I suppose it might be seen as a bit dated or a bit of inaccurate prophecy now (that seems to have happened to several Shute books), but one interesting theme running through the book is the one of why we should keep an orderly society going when we know the end is nigh (as the characters in this book did).
One way to interpret this aspect of the book that perhaps instead of what we do being a reflection of what we are, what we ARE is influenced by what we DO. For most of the book the characters in the story (set in Australia, post nuclear war and with the deadly fall out clouds slowly but surely approaching) keep everything together, but towards the end they start throwing all kinds of cautions to the wind and their society starts degrading very quickly.
