I've got one ? I like it.

Would anyone recommend this for heavier tones like maiden, ozzy, guns, metallica ?
just curios as one of my friends want to buy one, and i never tested one out before.

Funnily enough every person (including myself if I recall) tested when it first came out at the time at Bothners, and no-one prefered it to the Metal Zone.
Of course, now you have the Metal CORE - I think the ultimate thing BOSS could do is cross the more natural low end chunk of the Core with the EQ flexibility of the Zone.
Also: see if it says what they RECORDED the unit into/with.
It's amazing what a valve mic pre-amp can do to warm up a sterile pedal in the mix - ALWAYS try one in person.
Maybe pop up to your local shop on the weekend and try the 3 in the BOSS line to see which you dig the most
Me - owned all the Tech 21's, BOSS etc and now I'm on the Carl Martin Crush Zone - can be a bit bright depending on the amp used, but NICE -warm, fat & cutting.

I normally frown upon using any Single "distortion" pedal as it most often it gets used into the clean channel.
I prefer using something like the DS-1 into an overdrive channel to give it a bit of a boost (ala. Vai/Gilbert) Or Tube screamer on all the time.
But with pedals like "Metalcore", which I cannot find anything good about (incl. the name), it's too digital and harsh and...well..."single pedal into a clean channel" sounding.
Robert Marcello demo'd it when he was here and his playing was great into it but that's about it. The Tones were horrible!
I sat there with my fingers in my ears (true story) because it was too harsh, and I wouldn't want people in the audience doing that at my show.

I believe we have met at the robert marchello gig, just didn't release it was you.
The 2 worst pedals i ever heard was the Boss metal Zone and metalcore, sounds to digital.
But nothing beats DS-1, I got some great recording out of this pedal.

Agreed - I don't really like using any of the BOSS range as a stock drive tone - was a more of a comment of comparing "Boss apples with boss apples"
HOWEVER, I DO have an old OD-1 - that is a KILLER midrangy drive tone - be a great boost too !
Would love to play on an original late 70's/early 80's DS-1 - the new ones just aint the same.
PS: Robert wasn't much of a "tone conoisseur" - he was like,"can you hear me - yeah ? Cool I can hear me - let's go !"
(Sighs) Wish I could be that bloody-minded about tone ?

@Manfred: We did? :-[ I have the memory of a pot-head man! One time I forgot when my birthday was (true story)
+1 on the MT-2 and Metalcore comment.
@Gareth: LOL indeed. It explains his BOSS sponsorship.
only 3 pedals I'd used from BOSS are the TU-2, NS-2 and CS-3
But I was told to check out the GT Pro rack multi-processor, and am going to...before I make the bold "I wouldn't dare get sponsored by BOSS unless they paid me big bucks" comment.
