I have a great amp, internally it has been checked up on, or is on the process of being checked. I had Bill Lange suggested to me bu MrM (thanks dude) he is having a gander at all the insides, but when I suggested a retolex and new grill coloth and hardware he said he would not suggest that. However I figure as long as the amp is good inside i would nt mind adding some love to its exterior (if i had an ugly wife and some spare cash I would give her some plastic surgery and face lift) So its kinda the same thing.
So what do you all think? Any suggestions where? Or where to get the parts? If anyone has done this before? and just to ensure I get lots of replys I am gonna some something very inflamatory (as in other posts this seems to work!) ........... GIBSON Les Pauls look like crap. ? ?

You have a pure and unblemished soul, and upon your death you will leave behind the wheel of birth and death.

How about posting a pic of the amp? Personally I like cosmetically worn gear ( and by this I mean worn naturally over a number of years ). I think it has character and looks very 8)

People pay good money for that "knocked up" look these days. ?
Post some pics of the amp, as it is impossible to give an opinion unless we can actually see what it looks like. Something that looks bad to you might be in a perfectly acceptable condition for others.

No man Mika, leave it as it is! Google Neil Youngs amps to see just how cool a worn amp can be. Unless its really fubar or you want to go the snakeskin route and really pimp it...

I'm going to do it to my '65 some time, which is really beat up. Loses a little collectors value (not a big issue with a '70s model yet), but also protects the cabinet if you're carting it around. So I think if you prefer a clean, new look, go for it.
Not every amp guy likes working on the cab (probably why your guy recommended against doing it), so ask around. If you want to try doing it yourself look at
http://www.mojotone.com/ - they have everything you might need.

yoh, ile get some pics up tonight, I will be carting it alot, as my new band will be in fulll effect january, so guesse i just wanna have tip top gear. but let me know what you think after the pics, thanks thus far

You see its not to bad But if i can i would like to make it cool, thinking white tolex new hardware, make it a happy amp.
Alan are you doing yours yourself? I dont think any of these jhb amp techs like the idea of retolexing, yet in the USA its a big business with vintage amps????
Anyone know any handy people for this in JHB????

That looks about the same if not a little worse off than mine...
Yeah, I'm going to try my hand at it. There doesn't seem to be anything too complex about it.

surf green baby! ? that would look cool, and maybe won't get as dirty as the white.
MIKA-the-better-one
haha you do like your surf green...... Wouldnt the tolex application be a bit hard, maybe i am just chicken, the hardware seems easy enough and the grill cloth but the tolex is a bit scary. ☹

How about leather instead of tolex - ostrich skin maybe - would definitely be a different look.

I used white vinyl and I don't recommend it. It is tough to apply although looks very porno when you're done.
whose signature is that on the front?
MIKA-the-better-one
its apparently the amp clarence gatemouth used while here at the grahamstown festival in the 70's. Idno the white looks pretty cool, a want that even more now. but you say it was hard to put on, now trust me i would do so much worse, I need to find someone handy to help me.

Wouldn't the white covering be very hard to keep clean?

Yup - even my Vox (which is cream) shows every little mark and dust deposit.

If you don't find someone to help, you could consider one of the furniture upholstery places - should be a relatively easy job for them.
Sean
The amp looked familiar, and now that you've mentioned the signature, more so. Did you buy it recently, because I recall there being an ad for it?
MIKA-the-better-one
I did buy from someone of the forum, in durban, we drove to harrismith to trade my vox ac 50 cph for the twin. White would be hard to clean, but does look so cool. Ile talk to a furniture upholstererererer, see what they quote me.
