Is an second-hand Boss DS 1 an bargain for R300 ? It's at Cash Converters? I bought my Boss OC-2 for R100 and it was brand new and still in a good working condition.

Yeah that a bargain, it goes for at a music shop for about R500-R600.

Depends on what you want to use it for, maby a pre amp infront of a hi gain amp.
If you want to know what it sounds like, think of the time when distortion was introduced to the guitarist......
just over reacting a bit, You can get some decent sound out of it.

If you are into recording this pedal could be handy if you are looking for that unique vintage tone.

Go for it! Or buy the Behringer copy for less! ?
A good fat dist tone that has more gain then you'd expect.

Seriously though I'm sure you like Satch and that's one of the pedals he's always used for his lead tone (in front of an amp distortion as far as I know) - well until now with his new VOX Satchurator (how long did it take them to come up with that one? ;D) Dist pedal.

Steve Vai is also a DS-1 fan, that is until now with his signature Ibanez Dist pedal (complete with swirl paint job like his older JEMs).

Jeez! Even Malmsteen has a signature Dimarzio cable. Talk about ludicrous cashing in!

If you'd like i can post a couple of clips to give you an idea of the sound. It is a little raw sounding but depending on what you'd like to play it can be very effective. :-[

Or maybe it's the DS-2 I've got?? Hehe, thing is I normally just use my Cube's rectifier setting. It's pretty decent and means I spend less time plugging things in ?

I have looked but they don't have amps there . If the light burns indacating its on will that mean yhe sound is going through

No. I have a Double Muff that gets power but does nothing else. Don't you have a small practice amp or a friend who has one that you can take with you to test the pedals ? You could also test it through a PA if they have one. Might not sound that grand, but atleast you'll know they work.

Yeah, you have to take your own stuff with to test it, otherwise you might end up dissapointed. The LED light has nothing to do with the tone circuit, it's just that: a light and nothing else. The LED working will not guarantee that the pedal works at all.

An P.A would be the best option . Maybe I will just keep the slip and test it at home if they allow it

Best to ask them if they do refunds. Some shops are full of crap about returns.

Just plugged in my DS-1 and realised why I love it so ? Laziness should never get in the way of good sound!
