I feel like a necromancer reviving this thread, but anywhoo.
After watching Guthrie Govan shredding on YouTube with my mouth gaping open, I ordered Creative Guitar 1 on a whim as an early birthday present and I'll have it next month. What can a begginner like me expect from this book, in your opinions have I made a good choice or have I bitten off more than I can chew? From what I could gather by the reviews, there was a bit that someone with limited theory knowledge could glean from it. I'm quite excited to start varying (developing) a style of play that isn't necessarily metal.
Thoughts?
Creative guitar 1 is aimed at a few general things (tuning, using a metronome, technique etc etc), theory without tears (some music reading involved), then comes the woodshedding bit. It's a very good book to start off with. It's aimed at all levels of guitar players. I'm still stuck in towards the latter half of CG1.
Creative guitar 2 is chock full of licks, exercises, 8 finger tapping. Think of it as a pandora's box for guitar players.
Funny thing is neither book is aimed solely at people interested in metal alone. There's lots to be learned from these 2 books.
Cheers
