Mine definitely goes back to LP days. And this gonna scare a whole lot of people because you won't know who I'm talking about.

My parents took me out to a cd store and told me to pick 2 cd's.
I got the following:
Nirvana - Unplugged
Metallica - Black album

Still love the albums!

First CD: I bought all my favourite Floyds at the same time (DSOTM, WYWH, Animals, The Wall, Final Cut) and my two favourite Tulls (Songs from the Wood, Heavy Horses).
Never bought singles.

First one I bought was Deep Purple - Made in Japan

First CD I can not remember. I just somehow one day and woke up with a whole house full of them.

I can't remember 100%, but it was either Green Day's Insomniac, or The Offspring's Ixnay On The Hombrè.

However, the first ever CD I got was a birthday present from my brother, The Signs Were All There by a band called Blameless. Such a good album, I wonder what ever happened to the band...

Mine was Dookie - Green Day. Dont have it anymore. Ray@ Hehehe, I presume you're refering to Ras's epic masterpiece Anthems? Seriously though, wtf were they thinking?!?

Before that, my first ever LP: Dire Straits's first album
I did buy various singles in the late 70's, especially Blondie, ELO, Kiss. Usually after hearing the cover version on the Springbok Hits records...remember those?

I purchased my first Album in 1970 Johnny Winter And - It was "liberated' from me during the 70's and eventually it came back to roost in the 80's. I still have it. The first CD I bought was Weather Report - Heavy Weather because my vinyl and tape versions where worn through. The first DVD I bought was Pink Floyd live at Pompeii

Uriah Heep - Demons & Wizards (hence my nick)
Strawbs - Bursting at the Seams
Wings - Band on the Run

I still know the words to most of the songs on those LP's

The late 60's and 70's came up with some wonderful albums.
I also bought these three as well as most of the Uriah Heep and Strawbs catalog at the time.
I gave up on Paul after London Town

The Move, I haven't heard that name for years. I also had this Album, All I can remember is "Ella James"
I think this was the last album before ELO was formed. I was a huge Roy Wood fan, bought the solo albums and even the Wizzard Album.
The "Jap Crap" album must have been in every household in those days. I used to think Richie Blackmore was God then. ?

I agree.
But then I have to be careful and ask if I'm just sounding old for saying "they made them good in those days ..."
(but they did - didn't they?)

I just remembered Iron Butterfly - In a Gadda da Vida
Loved that album and "the" drum solo.

We remember music in conjunction with the memories that went along with it.
Much of that music is inextrixably linked with teenager love & heart break and other dramatic first experiences ...

Remember learning to ride a motorbike when "Bat out of Hell" was a hit.

"Band on the Run" was a mandatory dancing song in 1974 ... I never spent any more money on Paul after that.

Dee! So you are the only other person in the world who knows Blameless! Brilliantly underrated band - still got the CD. The title track has to be the best (and most joyful) song ever written about a serial killer!
