Quick question about the Tokai finishes - I see they list them as "lacquer", but lacquer is a pretty generic term, describing any shellac, nitro, acrylic or even waterbourne finish. So what do they actually use and does it vary across the different series' of Tokais?

Alan I was ebaying earlier and I definately saw some models with nitro. Not sure which though :-[ Obviously Mr Tokai will know for definate ?

LS150 and up are Nitro, which they call lacquer.
LS85/90/95/100 are poly.

The poly finish is very thin, I find it difficult to distinguish between their poly and nitro finishes.
Here's an example of a poly finish, an LS90 plaintop, Violin Finish(Honeyburst)...my guitar.
all the LS90 plaintops have this type of grain.

Man I cannot make up my mind about these Tokais vs Gibsons. The Tokais look soo dam good! But I am shallow and the Gibson name means alot to me ?

Basically it works like this.

LS85 - Gold Top and Black
LS90 Plaintop - Cherryburst, Tobaccoburst, Honeyburst/Violin finish.
LS95F Flametop - Cherryburst, Tobaccoburst, Honeyburst/Violin finish, Lemon Drop.
LS95S P90's - Gold Top.
LS100Q Quilt top - Cherryburst, Tobaccoburst, Honeyburst/Violin finish...plus a bunch of other colours.
LS150 Plaintop (Historic R9) - Cherryburst, Tobaccoburst, Honeyburst/Violin finish, Gold Top.

All made in Japan.

i brought in the Gibson Les Paul Studio. in black landed R14k and the Tokai was R8 k and up

That's R 6k...which is nearly half...and, keep in mind, you imported the Studio yourself. ?

Hey, thanks everyone for your comments on the video. I'm gonna try and do some more quite soon. We're busy with 6 shows a week at the moment so time is a bit short now.
