What have you got in your collection that might just be tad embarrassing to disclose.

What got me going on this, when I checked through my collection and I have a few Albert Hammond songs.
This is a lot more nostalgic than anything for me, I saw Albert Hammond in about 1974 at the old Colluseum in Johannseburg.
I was about 11 years old and a huge fan. who can remember "I'm a train", "Peacemaker", "Free electric band"

Oh boy....OK... :-[ Nothing wrong with Albert Hammond by the way!

Xanadu by ELO/Olivia Neutron Bomb...I mean Newton-John - I actually still like a couple of those tunes, especially the combined big band/rock tunes.
Michael Learns to Rock (Best of, I think)...oh so romantic and sweet! Big plastic hearts and teddy bears from Cardies.
Kevin Bloody Wilson...it was terribly funny in my army days, now even I have to agree it's a bit crude...
Bee Gees...I'm not so much embarrassed, but my wife thinks they're hilarious, especially the high register singing of the disco days.
Klipwerf Boereorkes...got it as a gift and never actually listen to it, I just don't like boeremusiek. But it's there for all to see!
Air Supply...see Michael Learns to Rock. But I liked the acoustic guitar in Making Love out of Nothing At All.

LOL...my parents bought every Richard Clayderman album! We even went to see a live show when he toured SA, in 1979 I think. His supporting act was a very good classical guitar player called Nicholas de Angelis IIRC. Very soppy tunes, but he was good!

Interestingly, my younger brother learned a couple of RC tunes and copied them on the piano, with remarkable accuracy, when he was five or six years old. Sadly he never took his playing any further and today doesn't play any instruments, even though he likes music a lot.

Yep, I had a couple of Boney M records (Rasputin!) but I don't have any of their music anymore.

HEHE, I remember Manuel The Bandito - funny stuff. Also, I remember there being something about him having a couple of shows in a few pubs in Durban - part of his world tour or something like that.
Think I might still have his Xmas Album somewhere.

Nothing wrong with boeremusiek IMO. I was introduced to boeremusic when I was in the army in the 60's when my PF Korporal forced me, a little Engelsman from Durban, who was heavily influenced by the Beatles and The Rolling Stones, to join his band (they needed a guitarist). When I got into it I fell in love with the music - it swings like hell and is happy stuff. (it's a pity that this genre is linked to ultra-conservatism). I learned that musos are musos no matter what genre they play. I became an avid viewer of the boere-orkes Kompetisie on TV because a lot of those musos were very accomplished and always seemed to be having a great time playing their brand of music.

This thread is not meant to diss musicians or music genre's. ?

Purely for fun, we all seem to have a set music taste that could embrace lot's of genre's but sometimes certain songs or bands dont quite fit in with our image (if you can call it that). These would tend to be more POP than anything else.

EG. It's like me at school, the Prog Rocker who had a certain image to maintain, when Grease opened up at the local cinema, I had to go to a cinema in JHB to see it, just in case someone saw me.

Other stranger stuff in my collection, George Benson - Give me the Night (Pop, not much guitar, but I enjoyed the groove)
Slade's Greatest Hits - Glam Rock from the 70's, but I dig it.
Neil Diamond - Hot August Night - really made a big impression on me way back when.

I too was an avid viewer of the boere-orkes kompetisie... Was fascinating to see how some of the bands just ROCKED compared to others... my theory is that every genre (even my least favourites) have redeeming artists. On that note, I have Pink cd's and I love her new single "Funhouse".

I think owning the Friday Night in San Francisco cd makes up for it though.

Hmmm... Courtesy of my darling wife, we have some Westlife CDs in the rack, but I do recall, back in my not so musical days, I had some Backstreet Boys CDs, thankfully they disappeared...

Hehe, great topic! I have taken a LOT of flack for being a shameless Frank Sinatra fan. Also have cds by Laurika Rauch and Theuns Jordaan, o ja, and the Song vir Katryn cd by Valiant Swart and Mel Botes. All the really dodgy stuff is the missus' though... Juanita du Plessis, Kurt Darren, Westlife, Celine Dion and Josh Groban to name a few.

Sigh...Beautiful South ( Don't remember which album, bought it for "Song for whoever"). It also happens to be the first cd I ever bought.

To be fair, the Robbie Williams album was his first, the one where he went all rock to try and break away from the boy band image. Still no excuse though...

This morning, my curiosity piqued by recent debates on this forum, I was digging through the various locations in our house in which CDs are stored looking for something by Joe Satriani. I know I had Flying In A Blue Dream and I recall seeing Surfing With The Alien around the house at some point. Couldn't find them! Either stolen, given away or loaned out and never came back. What I DID find, amongst other things, was something called Sensual Sax :-[. Please keep it to yourself.
