Why I Would Rather Gouge My Own Eyes Out Than Play An Ibanez

Hmmmm. After much consideration & many years of playing (Mostly Fenders), I've come a simple conclusion. I will never, by my own free will or choice, choose to play a guitar made by Ibanez. For a few reasons.... Build quality. Having seen many many RG model electrics I just think they seem inferior? And the two buckers one single coil 'versatility' these things claim seems like a 'Stuff more bits in to fool people' philosophy. As for their high end models. One word. Ugly. And as for who plays them. Weeeelll, that brings me to the Main gripe I have with these things. Image. Image. Ibanez as a brand overall just speaks to me of 'heavy metal' wankery and overblown cock-rock guitarists. When I picture Ibanez I picture uncreative, speed obsessed, non-musical 'bands' making bland & uninteresting noise. (not good noise as one would find being thoughfully constructed by the likes of Sonic Youth, Battles, Mogwai or Slint) but rather terrible noise as you might hear from those mighty twats Vai & Satriani. I picture that self obsessed wanking when I picture Ibanez and it just puts me off. I might consider an entry level semi hollow like one of the Jet Kings as a spare guitar for kicks, but i guess if I really was that way inclined I would just do an epiphone casino or dot. I dunno man. Fenders for me. Some Gibsons, maybe a Rickenbacker. But no no Ibanez. ?

Same! My Ibanez Artist(nothing near a metal machine) is my most played guitar. It recently went away for a new nut job, and I was missing it dearly. I prefer it even to my Fender Strat - it just has that mojo. And I think thats what counts most for guitars - not what image they have, but rather what they do for you as a guitarist. A friend of mine, a very accomplished jazz musician, played my RG 470. He still sounded like a jazzer, and he even said he enjoyed playing it! So there you have it folks...

Personally.....We as a family own a few Ibby's...........are they perfect....not by any means....there is a lot that can be done to improve them......they work for us for now and we are happy........until GAS strikes again......

the SynchroniZR bridge looks quite interesting.

sorry okes... I can't share your gas on this... they all look the same to me. I think its the headstock that puts me off. Its the same across most of the range...

Funnily enough, that's exactly how I feel about Fenders and Gibsons ? I *love* the Ibby headstock. I think it's teh uber sexy!

Ja I schmaak the Jackson but after reading what Alan says about what they do to the strings, I'm a bit less crazy about them but still prefer them to the Gibson and Fender headstocks.

Funny thing is... check out how much emphasis we put on the headstocks when we REALLY should be focusing on our playing, the strings, neck, etc ?
