Yes, this thread has now given rise to spin-offs....very little about Ibanez is being said and a lot more lately about Fenders, Gibsons, etc.

Just a thought - because I got tired of wading through all the posts by page 9 - did your friend ever consider the ARX / ARC series? Nothing heavy metal wankery about them, they're more along the lines of the Yamaha SG2000s.

If you like that, then look at the ARX500, AR300 & ART420.

A friend of mine has an original '70s AR300 which he bought for peanuts from a shop which didn't really know/care what they had. Apart from being a bit neck-heavy, what a sweet guitar.

Hey yeh, he is sitting here and says he keeps the same opinion on ibanez. One thing I experience from band practices is he is very opinionated and doesnt compromise so its futile. Talking Jags he plays one, and thats about the only guitar he plays as well as mustangs. Strange they are both on this thread

Seriously....I have one of those and it is a great guitar.....Only shortcoming are the tuners...has a little too much backlash and an upgrade to Goto's improves things a lot.

It is a pity that these are now discontinued although TOMS still has stock.

And they say on that website: The thing is, in Japan they love western stuff. There's a reason the lawsuit era stuff was so popular, in fact that's the reason it started.

In Japan the Yakuza drives Merc's.
The Japanese really just prefer Western products.
As for Ibanez. I'm not a big fan of the bottom end guitars. But the Prestige guitars are brilliant.
Most of my guitars are actually Ibanez's.

The bottom end Ibanez guitars are rubish. I have a really awesom Ibanez sa series and it sound and plays wonderful

I had no idea there was a guitar feed on reddit ???

It rather explains why, despite my championing of Tokais, that Japan is one of the largest market for Gibson. The name will be worth a lot - especially in a high income environment.

A Japanese acquaintance of mine, who used to be a professional photographer in New York City, said that Japanese used camera stores are a utopia. Well heeled amateurs will buy a professional camera, make a few exposures on it, and then trade it in for the latest model. So a lot of almost unused pro gear is available for next to nothing. It's a different kind of market.

When some of us grew up Jap products were seen as being inferior..hence the term Jap C---p was often heard. That still lingers in the minds of many Westerners.

Sad but true. The introduction of the Nikon rangefinder cameras should have killed that notion in the 50s. But Japanese guitars only went from novelties to knock-outs in the mid-70s.

Same with cars, while I was living there I never saw a car older than 2 or at most 3 years on the road (it also had to do with incredible insurance costs for cars)...
Guitar reddit is ok but nowhere near as busy or cool as GFSA ?
