Hey guys
So a good friend of mine has said he'd bring a guitar back from Canada for me in December or so... My mom has offered me some use of her credit card too, hence my insane budget ?
Now, I am thinking of trying to get a strat, but not sure if I should go as old as possible or what.. I am hoping someone can have some good opinions on this..

Like I said, I want a good strat. Been wanting an MIJ for soooo long now, have not wanted anything but now pew my budget went up :-[

$1000!!!! you can do better than a mij. go mia........ EBAY all the way, go with a seller who has%100 confidence. 'you could probably pick up a cool 70s start if you bid right. I would and, this is me, get a mustang hands down. But go EBAY

BEen looking on ebay. Found a decent '86 MIA for $950. Thinking I am going to keep an eye out for something like that..
I was looking for more input as in pre 86, the QC was terrible at Fender so there's a bigger chance of a dud guitar etc ? Or rather go for a 2009 MIA or something along those lines

Yea you should go to the bay. Hmmm...with a $1000 you could pick up maybe a Duesenburg, Gretsch, G&L or dare I say Gibson. But hey if you want a strat then you should go for a strat but keep it MIA.

I have seen alot of those special edition strats, with matching headstock going for less than $1000 usualy around 800. I guesse there on some issues with 70s starts howver pick up a good one and they are drop dead amazing.

I personally wouldn't touch Ebay... most of the guitars on their are fakes...
I have seen a Fender Custom shop fake before...
They could have fooled me, the serial was right, the autheticity certificate was right, to every last detail... and it was originally a MIM...
So heed my warning all you ebayers...

I wouldn't go older unless you can play the guitar first. There are nice older guitars, but many are not or have been used hard or have less common features like roller nuts or Kahler trems. Picking up a newer US model is probably your best bet - you know you are getting something of a consistent quality that probably hasn't seen much use (yet ?). Plenty of deals around on that stuff. But buy from a reputable dealer on Ebay and you should be OK.

Way I see it a new MIA is not THAT far off a new MIM (Save the electronics which will be replaced anyway and the wood quality and QC and whatever)

That's the way I would go Mike.......but then I'm biased, and I don't like buying something and immediately start changing things (except for a good set up). I'd change after a while, but only if it warranted it.

yeh newer is safer if you not testing it, howver i have broken this rule before and it has worked (but dont do that) EBy is not that bad, thats maybe one or two bad occurances, if we all live by that standard I dont think any classified servive would be safe, let alone imagine the generalisations that would be made by tourists about SA..... I have ordered brand new from sites in the US, UK etc and they mess up so really no route is %100 foolprooof.

Say between '95 and '05 - a good decade ? Some newer models like the EJ Strat (if you can find one in your price range) or even the Mexican Classic Player '60s (which is like the Strat version of the Baja Tele).
