AlanRatcliffe To be honest, I've never been comfortable on steel acoustics - I've never put in enough time on them to get past the "hard work" phase. But as others have mentioned, the solution is to have it set up properly, go a gauge lighter and possibly even detune. Then gradually work your way up to .013s at concert pitch. ? 12-strings is another matter... Setup is absolutely crucial. My electric 12 plays like butter - as long as you can handle a really wide neck (1-7/8" at the nut). It's my only guitar that has a Gibson scale length, which lets me use .010 gauge strings on it at concert pitch. Stays in tune too.
