Hi everyone

Here's a recording we did at one of our band practices. I basically got a mix in my monitor, and output it straight into my BR600. It is quite rough but I would love to know what you all think. The band is called The Second Field.

I got a feeling there was a bit of Doobie Brothers influence at the beginning of the guitar riff ........ but agree with KayDUB, funky.......

Nice work, Garth. Musically interesting. Sorta radio-unfriendly arrangements (that's not a criticism; you don't have to be going for that at all), but I liked each of the parts you guys have strung together - good flow between them and they're all strong. I particularly like the space everyone has set out to create in the song. Makes for a happy vocalist. How long has the band been operating?

Thanks Stratisfear. Really appreaciate the comments. We've only been a "band" per-se for a few months, but we've played together for about 3 years within out church bands etc. I find that its really easy to read each other and where we're going with the songs. I know what you mean about radio-unfriendy, and we're not going for that sort of thing, even though it would be great to be heard. We haven't practiced much lately as we've been completely involved in building a recording studio, once thats done we have some bigger plans ?

When engaging in the sense of listening to this specific peice, I do feel so ever gracefully compelled to a mental state, which is directed in a specific direction. Such a direction sadly cannot be assigned a specific reason as the the studies of the cognative are ever so complex. Thus it must be said that the song simply carries with it a stimulus that arouses somewhere in my brain a reaction to Durban. perhaps due to its light hearted and relaxed nature do I feel such a compulsion. The term refered to in the latter as "Durban like" spawns from the english language currently used in this description, it was intended to be a point on which I can relate the song to a point of understanding. A common reoccurance is that such a feel is related to bands in Durban, as they carry with them a certain aura of sound perhaps but not limited to the whole.?

Great explanation ? . It would most definately be the feeling aroused, and not necessarily the specific sound, I can relate to that... +1

Hey Garth, I finally got to listening to your two numbers and I like. I hope you guys stick together because it can only get better.
I do have one crit though - and this subjective. The vocalist can sing, but is holding back. Maybe a lack of confidence. Everything is coming from the back of his throat and on the verge of falsetto which for me doesn't sit comfortably with the energy of the backing - he needs to find his chest voice.

Thanks Pete, he was recovering from a bad dose of the flu when we did this, but i agree with you. Pete, I have been meaning to contact you about our studio build, but there has been so much stuff on the go. Once we're done with it i'll give you a shout, we are 90% of the way there ? . Ciao
