Boost pedal with a fender twin?

I used to use a booster with my voc ac 50 all the time, it gave me a very rich sound amazing. Now I have this fender twin and all the booster does is make it stupidly loud.
Any suggestions as to boosters that would enrich the sound? I guesse I would need more of a gain booster than a volume booster?

Depends what kinda gain you want..

You get preamp and power amp distortion.. Preamp is typically used for metal, and poweramp used for rock.. The bad part is the poweramp is what makes it loud.

Twins are designed to stay clean at very high volumes. Between 7 or 8 on the dial before the amp starts getting even slightly "crunchy". But if you're looking for a more overdriven sound then use a pedal - Twins take pedals very nicely. Tube Screamer for a mid-boosted SRV kind of thing, Barber LTD for a natural, sparkly overdrive and something like the MI Crunch Zone or a BSIAB for a more rock thing.

And yeah... I was driving my Blackface with all the dials on 10 recently with a Tube Tamer attenuator to bring the volume down to bedroom levels. Part of "torture testing" the tube Tamer - which it basically laughed at, barely even getting warm.

Ah so you reckon a tube tamer would give that little bit of sweetness, I was thinking of a fulltone fat boost 3 to give a little bit of break up?

An attenuator like the TT is for when you want to crank the amp for more of the amp's own natural overdrive, but still keep the volume down. It's still nice to have a drive pedal in front to give you a different voicing/tone. I don't know the Fat Boost though...

Check out the Xotic RC Booster. It pushes the amp more and adds a little gain.

sadly as discussed on other discusions, it has been officially proven that a gt8 will do no more than cheapen my sound much like a dirty whore. but shall consider none the less.

I would never use a GT-8 in front of a tube amp!! i don't think anyways! ?

nah I know, as you can tell its quite an issue/topic, both sides trying to either condemn or reinforce there position. Idno like using such a good amp like a twin, or ac 30 or mesa lonestar, most valve amps, if you keep it all analogue, it sounds sweet, gt8 + tube amp is like putiing a electric running engine in a ferrari.

Do you have the newer Vox AC50, or the older "just-a-louder-AC30"-AC50 from the 60's ?

I had the newer one, hence the word "had" I do miss it but love this fender twin alot more
