Here are 2 Sound Bites of of some stuff I am working on. Basically I'm using Guitar Rig 3 as my Amp/Effects module and Reaper as my DAW, I found that Sonar was too bulky and was creating drop-outs when I loaded more than one instance of Guitar Rig. I like to use GR3 for Lead, Bass, and Rhythm. I find that GR3 creates a lot bit of superfluous noise when I crank the gain up the Amp sims I have added a few noise gates. I believe that this is fixed is the 3.1 update, but I'm still in the "try before you buy stage". I'll probably want to get the full Monty with the Rig Kontroller and all but I am led to believe it won't be cheap >☹

Some excellent tones in there Rene. Your lead tone in A Blue is maybe a little too high gain or needs a little high end rolloff to smooth it a bit, but I can still hear the tone of the guitar itself coming through well - I can really hear when you're digging into the strings on that one. Nice.

Rhythm and bass tones in Marrakesh are gorgeous. The bass sounds like it's just being played lightly right up towards the neck - real sweet. Bass and rhythm are locked together so tight it's like they are one instrument. Lead tone is too aggressive though - although to be honest, maybe it's because I expect to hear a fatter, smoother, humbucker type tone over a backing like that - a Santanaish kind of thing, which is maybe a bit obvious.

Nice tunes Rene. Great blues playing.

I like the first byte the most. The tone on the 2nd one mask out the background too much. The tone on A blue is also a bit too much on the high side, but the playing is great and soulful. Reminds me of the BB King style but I also recognized a fair bit of SRV licks in there.

Thanks for the input Alan - You have kind of defined what I have unconsciously felt what was wrong with these tracks. You are right on the money with Marrakesh, when I first composed the rhythm I had this vision of a train of Camels crossing the desert I think they call it a Caravanserai ? ( a bit of a 70's flash-back).

The great thing with GR3 is that my tracks are all recorded dry so I can tweak them to my hearts content. I will probably rerecord the Marrakesh lead using a different pick up setting, (back + mid on my Strat), to get more of a humbucker sound.

Thanks Riaan, Seph for your comments - I dig BB and SRV a lot but I think the guy that has impressed me the most in the blues idiom in last decade is Larry Carlton this guy can go from straight up jazz through screaming blues rock into a full shredded ending in one song. It just makes me want to go out there and get me a good old Electric Spanish No. 335.
