MusicForum.co.za

Can't reveal too much just yet but me and my GFSA partner are considering starting a more generally themed music forum that GFSA will become a part of. You'll still be able to go to GuitarForum.co.za and see all the categories, etc, but it will be part of a bigger forum with all sorts of other topics as well. The site might lose some of it's uniqueness and so on but it will also provide you with a larger variety of stuff to read and more resources to call on (say with recording, or PA systems, you could speak to the tech dudes and make deals, etc). What do you guys think of that? Keep the GFSA forum as a unique and separate entity or include it in as a sub-section of a larger music forum? (Personally, I prefer the GFSA uniqueness and stuff but it's my baby so I'm biased)

Gray

Sweet then I cant see why anyone would be against it.

How is the new forum coming allong ? I tried searching it but only the discusion came up on google.

NorioDS

Need to work things out a tad. Both Alan and I are uber-busy so it's still in the planning phase ?

Is this ever gona happen?
There is no decent Music production forum in SA that I know of at the Moment.
MIO used to be , but has disintegrated and is not very well run or supported it seems☹
Are there any alternatives to Mio?

Lethe

Sounds good. The more info flying around the more we can learn. I guess you'll be needing lots of moderators though...

Mio is rather quiet now. I think forums have a shelf life on the net anyway.
Sooner or later the trolls pull in and rant about being censored or rules being too strict and/or make it kak. Coupled with the core groups of members changing lives. New core groups form but get smaller and smaller.
Keep an eye on proceedings, maybe look at what makes other forums work/not work and learn from it.

Good luck gents.

We shelved the idea of musicforum for a while, but we registered the domain and will look into it again in the near future.

This is to announce that, given this hideous betrayal, Bob, Jack Flash Jnr., KP242, and I are off to form www.ukuleleforum.co.za

Good day! >☹

Musicforum.co.za is a good idea - as you said before , guitarforum will remain as is , it'll then be a sub forum but I honestly don't think anyone presently on guitarforum will care - They are here for the forum so their bookmark will then point to the subforum - a new road to get there.

If Musicforum.co.za was for all types/aspects of music playing, performing , mixing & production it will be a much easier marketable and more profitable ad revenue site

The problem being that the admin multiplies quite a bit and we're both stretched a little thin ATM. Still, we need to make a few changes around here soon, so let us discuss this and we'll let you know.

Also, bear in mind that even if we were to start a forum tomorrow, it would take a little while to reach critical mass, where there were enough members to make it approach the usefulness that GFSA has attained in the guitar community.

Let me be the stick in the mud ?

I like the uniqueness of GFSA and would like to keep it that way.

On the other hand it does make more sense, so I'm ok with it ?

Cracking idea guys 8)

You've got my vote for sure!!!

I understand why Norio and Alan are doing this and it's their forum and their business to do what they like with.

But from my own selfish POV I don't like this, I think it will dilute the forum - make it more general, less specific, lead to all kinds of cross-posting across instrument-specific forums.

OTOH I'm not that confident of the long term future of GFSA in it's current form, so this may be the only way to preserve GFSA and a diluted, more general loaf may be better than none.

I agree with this. Besides, going around asking people "Hey, are you on guitar forum?" has a certain ring to it.

Music forum? meh...
