nick So we all know people want valve amps for the warm vintage tone, but are there vintage or desireable solid state amps?

vic Vox made a few solid state amps in the 60's......mostly piggyback configurations (Conquerer; Supreme etc.)....did not sell as well as their valve models though. They even had a solid state AC30 ! All of these are now very collectable. However I have not seen many around in South Africa.
aja I have only once ever seen a JC-120 in person. It was at a shop in melville. They were letting it go, brand new, for R7500. I wish I had the money then. That was about three years ago.
RobK If you're coming to Durban these holidays, I believe Coastal Music have one that's feeling kind of lonely amongst all those Marshalls. I'm sure it would love a visit. ? Don't know the price, though.
Danny-B That one at Coastals is golden! You should be able to beat them down to 8/9 grand, it retails at something ridiculous like 18 grand! When I bought mine from there less than two years ago, it was 12 grand retail...
Jaen-Pierre-Dowling How about the Peavey Renown Heads? The clean channel on those sound pretty close to the JC (or to my untrained ears at least?), and a decent distortion pedal like a Radial really makes those sound ridiculous (depending on the cab of course?). Doubt they are desirable though... ?
