Our headmaster at school would remind us, at least once a week, that the primary cause of nearly all ills in a young man is a
sluggish liver. How did you know if a young man had a sluggish liver? He would ride a "buzz bike" (motor cycle) or grow his hair long or both. What was the remedy?
Manly sport. Cricket was fairly manly, rugby was very manly, cross-country running and swimming were sort of border line and soccer was definitely not a manly sport.
