Hey
Guys ok ive had guitar for 8 months still a noob ?
Using a cort x-2, yes i know dont laugh at me.
With a Digitech RP90 pedal.
Im looking for a decent practice, for metal ofcourse, will be looking at a band once i improve but not sure if i need to take that into account right now.
Probably also want a flat amp, without all the effects, sine i already got the multi effects pedal
I did some research on the roland cube 80x and metal players dont seem to like the metal sound they get from it.
My budget is prob around 3-5k.
I just want some advice on what to look for what makes and models and, Tube or SS?
Any advice when it comes to buying a metal amp
thanks guys

peavy bandit, peavy vypyr, vox vtx, or my laney vc100 with a boost in front(only R5000 all valve and courier price included, hehe) the peavy vypyr would prob get you all the tones you need though ?
Munch
But wouldnt i be better of getting a pedal, and a standard amp without build in models and effects?
Heard good things about the peavey bandit?
I shouldnt be doing this but i just got looking at metal guitars atm cort x-2 cheap starter guitar, but i found a ESP ltd AX-400 for 6000 2nd hand with EMG 81 pickups hows that for a metal guitar, so tempted just wanna spend all my money!! lol
epiphone SG and explorer, whats ur opinion on those as electric guitars?
ok thanks man ill do some research into those models
Vick
Dud,the ltd is a much beter guitar man, cant even comper it to those epi's...and with the emg's it wil be awsum for metal...
Vick
Are the bridge and neck puckups both 81's ?
Munch
81 at neck 85 at bridge
6grand a decent price for one of those babies 2nd hand?
Vick

That LTD is a cool guitar. definately better thatn the Cort. The Valveking isn't THAT metal. It does sound good though, sounds even better with a few mods. R3900 for a valve combo is good. just see if you can play on it first.
MikeM
Make sure it works. I believe Peavey's generally take pedals really well so that's a great option at a great price.

Guys Line 6 Spider 3 70 watt, decent metal amp any1 used it? that dude selling the ESP is trying to make deals with me lol ?
and btw thats for all the technical help and opinions ?
Vick
Dont buy the guitar if u dont like it man,no matter how good the deal is,but if u like it,try 2 get him 2 drop his price man...
Line 6 r good metal amps...imo but i dont like the spidervalves...
Thou it wil give u alota difrint tones, from metal to rockabilly to pop...
Munch
Isnt this line spider a tranny amp?
Styles
No. the Line6 spider is a solid state digital modelling amp. The Spidervalve is the amp with a digital modelling preamp with 12ax7 buffers and a 6l6 valve power amp. they actually sound pretty good at a decent level and there is a preamp valve mod that improves the sound a helluva lot. Pricey though at R14000 for the head without the floorboard.
Munch
hmmm ok thanks ? 14 grand is a bit pricey for a beginner

Most will say stay far away from the Line 6 Spiders (the valve aren't amazing either in relation to other valve options but it is acceptable).
Amps to look at modelling wise are the Peavey Vyper, the Vox AD Valvetronix series. I've had metal success tone wise with my Cube 30 but I think the Vyper is the king of the modellers atm. If you do get a modeller, don't get that guitar setup with actives, modellers and active PUPs generally don't fair well together.
Munch
Ok awesum, jsut need to find out what the retail price of the vypyr is theres a 60watter going for 4 grand 2nd hand
21Fretter
Made a mistake, Vypers aren't the king of modellers, i could say they are the king of solid starting out modellers ? The Vetta II is the king of modellers but those are pretty hard to find and expensive! :\
P.S Don't be afraid to try a Vox Valvetronix or Cube either, I've seen a few on gumtree lately +-R2500. I think between those 3 modellers, the Vyper, Valvetronix and Cube, it's mostly personal preference (you can't really go wrong with any of them because are they are all solid modellers).

ok thanks man ? ill keep my eyes pealed
