Yep. It's almost like an onset of anti-GAS.
yep thats a great feeling Bob when you find the guitar you like....... and then the GAS just disapates....... i'm there too....
and yeah Bob if i was a steel string player and had a Morgan especially one that sounds as great plugged in as yours i would also look no further ... till you have that bottomless budget....
truly bob your Morgan is great sounding plugged... i hope other steel acoustic players get to hear it and look into the brand....
The bottomless budget is the thing. I popped into Music Connection on the weekend and ended up test driving this thoroughly amazing Breedlove Phoenix. Very lovely to look at, which is one thing, but the tone, the playability (and this shop don't set the guitars up when they put them on display), the intonation, the projection.... this guitar is from some other dimension.
"Only" R45K, though from what I've seen they'll knock something off of the sticker price fairly quickly, but still....
It impressed me more than that fab Lowden I got to play in Norwich in June. OK... it costs a little more too. But the Lowden is easy to forget, after all it's in Norwich. This Breedlove is sitting in Jan Smuts Avenue, just up the road from Hyde Park Corner.
Anyhoo, I bought some strings and went home. Restrung the Morgan and you know it doesn't sound bad. But that Breedlove.
Hmmm... I do have TWO kidneys.
The Morgan brand... the guitars are very good for the money. They're quite similar to Larrivee. The luthier, David Iannone, did his apprenticeship at Larrivee. So the Morgans are in top-end Larrivee territory.
There was an agent here in SA - no less than Hugh Cumming. Hugh bought somewhere between 20 and 2 dozen Morgans into the country. Then the deal collapsed. I don't know the whole story, but there was a shipment that arrived with spoiled finishes (these are brand new guitars) and there was a botched custom order. Andy McGibbon got a lot of work out of this lot (Hugh had the guitars refinished at his own expense).
Very lekker guitars. Nothing at all wrong with them. The guys who have them are generally very happy with them.
