DO NOT BUY AS AN AMP!
Now let me elaborate: I have one of these, they make for a REALLY good practice tool and the software features are a lot of fun to play around with. You can also do basic recording, MP3 play alongs etc. etc. etc.... BUT... the speakers that come in the integrated monitor are only loud enough to practice on your own. You can (although I haven't tried it yet) line out to a regular amp but then you need to buy that amp as well (it may work on your surround sound amp)... (Some guys on the jamvox forums say they use it live through a regular amp but it seems a little impractical to me without getting foot switches etc.)
My advice would be to read the recent amp buying thread:
http://www.guitarforum.co.za/amps-speakers-and-valves/looking-for-a-new-amp/
where the Roland Cube60 seems to be the consensus, it'll have built in effects and you can always pedal up as you need.
Summary: JamVox is not an Amplifier but rather Amp and Pedal modelling software for practicing (I love it btw) and simple recording with a small monitor (2 small speakers). If you are not yet at jamming level and have a decent pc/mac to run the jamvox software then it's a good bet for practicing BUT BUT BUT you will need to buy a "standard" amp at some point.
