My new Bassman!!!

You'll never regret it. I've got a Bassman Ten - 4x10 combo. No matter how hokey, beaten, mismatched, and downright heavy it is, it makes up for it with pure awesomeness.

Mine's been "blackfaced" - don't know what the reality of this is in the case of my amp since I'm an amp ignoramus - on the bass channel. Maybe it's the same mod that was mentioned above. The upshot is that the bass channel does overdrive, while the other channel doesn't. I still haven't played much with that bass channel enough though, because the other channel still sounds a little better to my ears with a ts9 tubescreamer.

All in all, silverface notwithstanding, these amps sound so good that it even gets noticed by non-musicians (not that they know it's the amp, of course, just that the guitar sounds really good).

I don't know why people still think this is a bass amp that guitar players sometimes use. The only person I ever heard of playing a bass through one was Elvis - a man not much renowned for his bass playing.

AFAIK, the 1968 is still 100% Blackface AB185 circuit, (like mine) just with a silver faceplate.
They changed it from 1969, to a true silverface circuit !
. . . but yours, if it is a '68 model, is still 100% blackface.

Yes it is. I checked the circuit with the blackface and even compared pics i found on the net...its absolutely blackface with silver plate. Checked the serial too and it came up 1968!
I found a site where some guy tells of 3 tine mods to make (changing resistors and caps) but mine seems to already have the right values! Guess i'm lucky!
But this baby has godly tone!!! Specially with a 12 gauged US strat loaded with texas pups & a blue boy!
