Line 6 uber metal

My Line 6 uber metal recently failed , It had power bnut the sound did not come out, only a little bit when i turned the volume to the max ,what could be the problem ? The music shop were i bought it send it back to line 6 in joburg where i still have to wait another 30 to 60 days to hear whats wrong with it , wich fx unit could be a good replacement

Could be any number of things - best to see what the Line 6 guys say. Does sound get through when bypassed? I usually check sockets and look for dry joints (and especially broken solder joints where sockets are soldered directly to the circuitboard). But if it's warrantee, it's not your problem (unless you're willing to invalidate the warrantee).

However, I wouldn't accept the 30 to 60 day thing. 14 days maybe, three weeks max - then I start shouting and writing snotty emails to the manufacturer (cc'd to the local distributor) to complain. If they can't back up the product they shouldn't have the agency, IMO. I don't know, but as I'm getting older, I'm less inclined to sit back and accept shoddy service. It's amazing how things get expedited when you become a cantankerous old bugger. Make enough noise and at the very least they move you to the front of the queue just to shut you up (in front of all the young folk who are still too meek and polite to complain ?).

jip the sound still comes through , they sayed something about the pre amp. I phoned the music shop every other day until they finally organized the pick-up so I am going to stay on their case so that they call the line 6 guys all the time . I really hope there is no Line 6 guys on this forum :-[

Wessel, if the pedal is still under warranty (which it sounds like from what you've said), I'd do what Alan says and make a royal stink about it.
I used to be in Tech Support in IT and from my experiences with faulty musical items I've had before, I can tell you that the repair procedures are very similar, so I'd say I'm qualified to advise you on what to do in this case.

First 30 - 60 days is an unacceptably long turnaround time just to check an item. The longest turnaround time I know of is 7 days to test an item. It is understandable if they've already tested the item and parts to fix the pedal will take 30 - 60 days to arrive, but that kind of time just to test a faulty item is lunacy!
If they can't give you an answer now (because it sounds like they've already had it a while), this is what I'd suggest:
If you returned the item in it's original packaging with the manual (I hope you did or still have them) and in good condition, you can ask them to replace it with a new one. As long as they can re-sell the faulty pedal when it comes back from repair, it shouldn't be a problem for them to do that.
If they tell you that's up to the Line 6 distributor to do that, remind them you are THEIR client, NOT the distributor's, so it's up to them to sort you out. Either give you a new Uber Metal or a different pedal, provided you have the packaging and it's re-sellable for them.

If you don't get any joy out of them, a friend of mine is selling his Rocktron Zombie Distortion (seriously heavy tone!) for R450. It's still in very good condition and only a year old. Let me know if you want it and I'll put you in contact with him.

From what I understand the line 6 people send it away to the guy that does their repairs , and the waitong peroid there is 30 to 60 days.I still have it under warranty of the shop were I buyed it . It was already inpacked when i bought it so that was stupid from my side to buy it without the box,the shop should stil have it.

At this time I dont think there is anything I can do about it because im not in contact with the line 6 guys but the shop is.

I am a bit afraid of buying something new now on acount of not knowing if i wil be charged a large repair bill even though its under warranty.

That's still crazy long though!

If it's under warranty they can't charge you for repairs at all, except if the fault was caused by something you did, like dropping it or using the wrong type of power supply. By the sound of it you didn't cause the fault, so they will have pay for the repair costs, not you. They cannot charge you if it's a factory fault.

I finally got my Pedal back. ? Or a new one,thats awesome! This took way to long!!!I sended it in about a month before the last post i think.In the end I was not Line 6 that took so long but the music store.Had I not phoned and complained every day it would have taken another month. The musicshop was waiting to get enough stock that has to be sent to Cape Town to fill a container!!!!!! But my constant complaining made them send it to me through a courier 8)

I am currently jamming it with My DD3 and OC 3. It gives an awesome lead tone.I wil record a demo soon.

Yeah, sometimes that's the only way to get help from shops, although I hate having to do it. I've been on the receiving end of complaining clients, so I know how it feels. I just try be as polite as possible while still making things very clear for them! ?
