Metronome blues,
I started using the metronome to get the timing and speed levels up, man that is the most off putting piece of equipment I have, I have a Korg electronic metronone, and every time you start the sequence you get that Pip and then it changes to Pop pop pop . so you end up stopping to listen for the Pip.eventually I get fed up and use my foot.
I know you have get used to it but it’s very frustrating, >☹ ☹

Something I learned drumming: when you can hear the metronome, you are out of time. As you say, you do get used to it.
Also try working with a simple drum beat - Kick on one and three, snare on two and four and a constant 8th note hi-hat pattern. Much more fun to practice to and easier to follow and know where you are. No need to stick to old tech.
Digital delays are another fun way to work on your timing and learn the effect on the feel of pushing and pulling the time.

I have a Boss DrRhythm drumming machine which lets you select a particular drumming pattern or write your own and play it back and you can practise your riff to an actual playing style. ?

I have a similar problem. My metronome is very cheap and just gives a uniform pipping. There's no drum beat.
But I hear what Alan is saying about how, if you hear it, you're out of time.

My first guitar teacher always called it a "metrodemoon" ?
