Online shop

Im not sure this is that right place to put this....

I was wondering if anyone knows of any online shops that do international shipping. Im asking coz guitars, amps ect are really expensive in this country compared to other countries. I know shipping would cost a lot but even if I can save 1000 bucks that would help a lot.

I did come across this site http://store.guitarfetish.com/index.html
They only sell Xaviere guitars but it means I can get a les paul for R2200 plus shipping 8)

But Im really looking for a new amp now so does anyone know any other sites?

Have you checked the shipping on the LP? I bought in a LP Junior copy a couple of years ago and it had to come by courier as the case was over the USPO maximum size. The courier nailed me for $325. Plus 14% VAT on this side - on the shipping too. Plus R100 clearing fee. If you are lucky, it will be smaller than mine, but you can still count on over $100 shipping at least.

Xaviere aren't that great anyway - inexpensive Chinese guitars. You can do better locally for the same price or less. Look at the Hamers at www.muz.co.za - they're at about 40% off at the moment and better quality.

Amps are heavy so shipping is very steep. Plus you pay a duty on them (7% I think) then the 14% VAT. Also if you buy from the US, they use 110V electricity, so if the amp doesn't have switchable voltage (some better amps do), you'll have to have it converted to 220V locally or buy a stepdown transformer.

Tread carefully my friend...

I have imported many items from all over the world including US before and personally I have never had a problem.

The best and only advice I can really give is that YOU must MAKE SURE you KNOW what you are buying.

KNOWING includes knowing the specs (such as power requirements) and therefor whether it will do what you want it to and whether or not it will work on 220V power for example...

I'll give a +1 to the Hamer suggestion. I bought one and am very happy with it, and with the promotion you can get one for less than the R 2200 you mention, shipped.

Gee, I didnt think about most of what was mentioned. Well it was just an idea I had to get stuff a bit cheaper.

The Hamers look good, thats for the suggestion.
