Saw Boston live in London in 1980, the "Boston" album is definitely one of my favourites...a genius album.
I remember the Supertramp 'live' album also being one of my favourites many years ago.
So many, so many memories.

Haha, Don - it may have been, but it falls firmly into the same category as all the other albums I listed there: music that really laid a platform, but music I can't listen to any more. My tastes have moved on considerably, I guess.

I need to buy some other albums besides Floyd.
LOL...seems our CD racks look pretty much the same! For me, it's really hard to choose a favourite Floyd album, though DSOTM and WYWH are the frontrunners.
As for the rest, it's really hard to choose all time favourites. That varies as time goes on, and I'm continuously rediscovering old albums.

Very Difficult to choose
Beatles - Revolver (slightly edges Abbey Road, The White Album)
The Who - Tommy (Acoustic guitar bliss)
Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffitti (still my favourite rock band of all time)
Genesis - Trick of the Tail (Peter Gabriel had left and the remaining members tried so hard)
Peter Gabriel - the 4th solo album (Masterpiece of an Album)
Styx - Grand Illusion (sounds silly now, but i knew it off by heart in 1978)
Yes - Going for the one (Rick Wakeman had rejoined and they were in top form)
Joe Jackson - Look Sharp (changed my life, simple brilliant songs)
Thin Lizzy - Johnny the Fox (loved the dual guitar attack)
David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust (Glam rock had some good stuff)
Peter Frampton - Frampton comes alive (My mother got it for me for Christmas 1976, I was 13 and it blew me away)
Just a tip of the Iceberg ?

I also have a few, but the two I go back to most often are Alter Bridge's One Day Remains and Blackbird. Mark Tremonti is a master!

How sad that we always complain that there is no support for local bands and especially for new/young/upcoming bands trying to make it into the market and yet when we need to list some of our favourite albums there are nearly no local artists on there... ☹
I could also list a whole bunch of international artists and albums that I like, but I would rather list some local ones that I have enjoyed or still enjoy and that are some of my favourites although they don't necessarily make the top of my list:
Prime Circle - "Live this life" and also the new "All or nothing"... my preferred style of music
Delta Blue - Can't remember the album's name... blues, Henry Steele really makes a guitar talk!
State far better - State far better... nice, more peaceful than some of my other likings...
Saron Gas - Fragile... they made it pretty big for a reason
I'll stop there for now... anyone else have some local content to add?

Koos kombuis - Elke boemelaar se droom!! He-he, good times, good times.., The problem with a lot of S.A bands, and this is purely my opinion so feel free to lynch me, is that they make great songs but not great albums. Often theres 2 or 3 great tracks and 6 or more average ones. That said though, I dont own a lot of s.a music (some fokofpolisiekar, koos kombuis, valiant swart, the nudies, parlotones, jimmy dludlu, and just jinjer. Really mainstream stuff), so maybe the good stuff is out there and I just dont know them. Any suggestions?

Good job menioning Parlotones there.... noticed the drummers surname...?

I don't think it's sad in that our local muso's haven't been pioneering much. There are exceptions and i'm sure our members can name them all...
as for local, I think I'm going to be embarrassed to admit this... When Arapaho launched their last album I think. something to do with a butterfly I was just starting out and we went to a few of their gigs.
Now that i think about it Just Jinger had quite an influence on me. They are still one of my favourite local bands.

I have all her CDs aside from some of the latest stuff. What's not to like? The woman has a set of pipes second to none (she is basically an opera prodigy who became a punk singer), an incredibly wide range and a power that makes most "rock chicks" sound anaemic. Has always looked good too, with a completely different look for each album, but with a "you wouldn't want to meet me in a dark alley" edge to it. Early albums were insane punk, with her using her range to do everything from angelic highs to demonic lows, often in the same phrase, but later albums like Revolution Ballroom are solid, well produced rock with interesting use of loops and world music and more restrained but still very impressive vocal performances.
Don't tell me you listen to Lene Lovich too?
when we need to list some of our favourite albums there are nearly no local artists on there...
The list was my favourite albums and only Juluka's
Scatterlings makes that list. Look through the rest and you will see a lot of other albums from Koos Kombuis, Dollar Brand, The Usual, Ladysmith Black Manbazo, lots of Juluka/Savuka, Sweat Band, David Kramer, eVoid, Radio Rats, etc., etc., etc.. The big problem is that our most talented artists take off for other shores as soon as they get a chance.
Anyway DJ, you're in Namibia - which means you don't have any local artists on your list either. ?

The question here is what is an "Album". And are they a thing of the past. In the 60's and 70's it was quite an event waiting for an 'Album" to be released. I would listen and try and feel the mood of the artist, there would be some good songs and maybe some mediocre ones, but I would evaluate the "Album" on the whole.
I think artists in those days would try and create a whole package rather than releasing a CD with random tracks. Just my humble opinion.
As for Local artists, I have yet to hear an Album that qualifies as a life changing , no disrespect to the local scene, lots of good songs, brilliant muso's etc.
I did buy the first 2 Rabbitt Albums and I thought Trevor Rabin was the best thing since Jimi Hendrix, saw them live a couple of times as well.
So i suppose I can list "Boys will be Boys" and "A croak and a grunt in the night"
chris77
Only know the names of Khan Morbee and Paul Hodgson, the guitarist, so I had to google it. Family of yours? Saw the parlotones live at a music fest in bloem in about 2001 me thinks, give or take a year or two. It was on the lawn of the Oliewenhuis and they played mid afternoon (good thing too cause a thundestorm ruined the latter acts!). Only heard of them again a few years later, but boy was I impressed back then allready. No idea who else played the festival, only remember The Parlotones blowing my mind with a megaphone and a pair of fender teles.

Yeah Squonk, maybe the word Album is on its way out. I like to buy cd's though so for me its great when I can listen to the whole thing non-stop and enjoy it all. I havent migrated to Ipods and mp3 players yet, and can see the benefits of making your own playlist with digital downloads of only your favourite tracks. Just havent taken the leap yet...
