I've been looking around for a fixed bridge, active pickup 7 string to replace an LTD that was stolen. The Schecter Loomis seemed perfect, but alas they don't make the hardtail version any longer. Lo and behold Take2.co.za had "1 one in stock", via Amazon USA. Ordering a guitar online seems crazy but I really wanted this one. It arrived today, only 13 days after placing the order. That has to be some kind of record. Very happy with Take2. I'm feeling very fortunate to have this guitar in my hand right now!
It's a long scale (26.5") with 2 EMG707's, the 7 string version of the EMG85. Ash body, set neck, Grover tuners, maple fretboard, tune-o-matic bridge. Having a maple neck guitar was the real sweetener, all my others are rosewood. The neck is noticeably chunkier than my Ibanez Universe, but after 5 minutes I hardly feel the difference. It's not nearly as cricket bat-like as some I've played (thinking of the LTD viper 7-string, didn't like the feel of that one.) More noticeable is the higher string tension, due to the longer scale length.
Here's a picture of the family, watching TV on the couch. ? New arrival on the right, alpha-dog Ibanez in the centre. Ibanez Prestige RG1527 not pictured, it lives somewhere else.
Here's the Loomis from the back, showing the wood grain visible through the "Vampyre Red Satin" finish and the set neck. I love the uniqueness (as far as I'm aware) of this look, another major selling point.
And here's my entry for the Guiness Book in the category "smallest girl in pinkest dress to ever play a baritone scale length 7 string metal mean machine" ? (My daughter, 7.)
