Heya. Title says about all - I got the wild(?) idea of putting a blend pot into a two-pickup guitar, either my Squier or the soon-to-be finished SG. Has this been done before? And if not, is it a totally useless idea? What do you think?

I have tried something similar. It's tough to dial in a set tone.. I wouldn't use one, but that's because I am over my ulti-switching phase ?

There's pros and cons to using a blend:
Pros
1. You can get any balance between the two pickups you want like with a two volume setup
2. Takes up a small amount of pickguard real estate
Cons
1. Special pot - log/antilog dual pot which is at 100% in the centre position
2. Difficult to find good quality blend pots - many will not be at full volume in the middle, many are linear instead of log/antilog
3. Slow to change pickups in comparison to a switch
4. Often difficult to tell when you have the two pickups balanced
5. Difficult to tell what position the pot is in compared to a switch
A pot with a centre detent can help with con #4. A knob with a clear marker helps with #5.
What I would do is set up a three way switch and a blend, with the blend operating in the middle. That way you can fiddle with the blend, but still change to bridge or neck pickup quickly. Generally I prefer a two volume setup and a three way switch though.
