SWITCHING TO 12V?? HMMM i have never heard of this before, only 9V for ALL the pedals, what would be the point of this? and can you do that with any pedals? EDUCATE ME ? ? ?
Some pedals such as the whole MI Audio range, Fulltone OCD and various other drive pedals can, but don't need to, run on higher voltages than 9V (up to 25V for MI Audio). Some digital pedals need 12V, like the Line 6 Stompbox Modellers.
Although you most likely won't do any damage to a pedal rated for 9V running 12V into it, it will void your warranty and might leave your pedal crispy. I've done it with some 9V pedals and it works fine, so use your own discretion if you're brave. Using the MI Audio Tube Zone (designed to run at higher voltages) at 12V instead of 9V, changes the tone slightly. Most including me would say for the better. It is not like a night and day difference, but it's easy to hear. It opens the headroom up and gives it more sparkle, more output volume, less gain, less fizz, smoother and thicker tone. Running the same pedal at 18V with an MXR power supply makes an even more pronounced difference, but I need to buy an adapter cable to do that with my BBE.
