i recently found that my 08 yamaha pacifica 012's input had stopped working and that i needed to solder it up again. And i started to wonder are these common problems with any guitar no matter the price or build quality?

It's common with the Asian barrel jacks - 18 months lifespan if you're lucky. Fit a Switchcraft to replace it and you're good for 10 years more.

Oh, yeah - something else... They are often fitted without washer and lock washer, so they start turning and break the wires. If that's what's happened, add at least a lock washer and it'll stop it from happening again.

I just took delivery of some switchcraft jacks. They are streets ahead of any asian jacks. The washer included is split in three places in order to grip the nut and wood securely. Not badly priced either.

Ja Riaan, they are pretty good with their deliveries too. They only charge R35 for Skynet to deliver to your door.
Their stock of dinner plates and cutlery isn't great though, but you can find those in Welgemoed :roflmao:
