AlanRatcliffe Yup. I think you are confusing them with a company whose primary concern is making musical instruments for musicians. I don't think they are anymore. They are a "Lifestyle" brand like Apple or a prestige brand like Ferrari. They are a company selling an image of high-quality and innovative instruments with a strong heritage to those who can afford them - not necessarily musicians either. Every move they have made in the past ten years bears this out - whether the "Robot" Les Paul, the Keifer Sutherland signature guitar or the Hendrix branded stuff. Sure, this gets them flak from the musos, but musos aren't the ones paying $170,000 for a piano with a (bad) picture of Jimi daubed on it by a painter better known for his work on hockey masks. Now in the long run, they may eventually wear the brand name out as the yuppie who bought the overpriced crap finds he is being laughed at by the "real" musicians (and guys who hang around Internet guitar forums ?), but by then they will have made their money, and they'll cut the brand loose (hopefully to someone who cares more about the musical instrument side of things) and run to the bank. BTW - Gibson aren't a listed company with shareholders, AFAIK, so calls to fire/impeach/shoot Henry are of no consequence to them.
chris77 Cdee - Hell, I hope thats not what it has come down to. The Brand should be EVERYTHING to its board. You dont buy a $2500.00 gibbo because its a 5x better guitar than a $500 Tokai, because its not. You pay 5 times more so you can say that you own a Gibson, and thereby associate yourself with the brilliant past and reputation of the Brand. Lets say, hypothetically, that Mercedes gets caught out that they make use of illegal emigrant minor slave labour to build their cars and there's proof theyve been doing it for decades. Does it make the cars in their showrooms bad all of a sudden? No, but who would like to be seen in public driving one... The Brand name is a Company's most valuable asset. Gibsons board should start showing theirs the respect it deserve.
AlanRatcliffe BTW - the page on the Gibson site with the Hendrix "Strat" has since disappeared. Maybe they are rethinking the whole thing, or maybe it's just to remove all the WTF?!? comments posted by users ?

lindsmuse Think I know what Hendrix would've done with this one - and it involves a box of matches and a dash of paraffin!
Renesongs I would love to hear Steve Winwood's take on the Hendrix piano. (He was responsible for all the piano and Organ work on the Electric Lady Land album AFAIK.)
