No duties on anything that has to do with musical instruments. You will pay in VAT on the rand value of the invoice on the day it arrives here. I rekon R130 at worse ?
I'm interested in the duties and VAT matter because I have vague plans of having a guitar delivered from the UK or Ireland. I've heard various stories about how the VAT is calculated and of other fees that get added. Often when I buy stuff from Amazon there is a "disbursement fee" that is added - but this may be added by the courier rather than by customs.
Other folks have mentioned the adding of a duty of 10% of the value of the courier fees and then further VAT on top of that.
Some of this may just be people hoping to sell you a guitar pumping the price up and blaming it on the government.
So what's the deal?
