Wizard Been wrestling with the idea of whether or not to upgrade my Squier Strat. Tried (unsuccessfully) to buy the Kinman pickups with possibilty of using in the Squier. Well ... some unsavoury person broke into our house this afternoon. Stole 2 laptops & my Squier. They found the laptops in a neighbour's garden. Squier gone. Insured, thank goodness. So will be in the market for a new guitar.
AlanRatcliffe Nasty one, but I suppose it could have been far worse - at least you are insured and it's a replaceable guitar.

Out of an entire houseful of goodies ... the only thing he got away with was a guitar. Says something about this hobby and lifestyle we indulge in ...
RobK That makes it almost every day this week that I've heard of someone's house being broken into. That sucks big time. As Alan says, it could have been worse, and I'm glad it wasn't. Seems these days guitars are easier to sell than laptops, though.

Riaan That's really sad to hear but fortunately it wasn't worse. On the bright side though, it's time for a new axe!

andrewjbryson Hey Wizard, sorry to hear about the Laptops and the Squire If you get out a decent amount for the Squire (dunno what is insured for) But I would suggest looking out for a nice 2nd hand Mexican / Jap Strat. And then once you found yourself a nice Fender, they upgrade possibilities are endless. Happy Hunting
Wizard Went looking this morning. I've now played long enough to know the difference between guitars (but not long enough to let anyone hear me!) ? Played an American Standard Strat this morning ... same one I always play when I go to Bothners. Easiest way to explain it --> it just works. So ... not rushing into buying anything new. Will get the insurance money ... add in my SM57 money ... see what other toys I can sell ... and aim at a decent Strat, as Andrew suggests. And while I wait patiently, will focus on my nylon. (anyone want to buy telescopes or marimba's, feel free to contribute to my Strat fund) ?
[deleted] For my guitars... one day I have this in mind http://www.mutual.co.za/mutual_demountable_vault.html haha ? Ay I have already had my R14k saxophone stolen, no insurance, no nothing for it. So I dread the thought even.
Reinhard Stratisfear wrote The handles are the weak link there...but I like your thinking, Rein! Yeh but it will at least annoy them lol Ideally I need a longer chain so it can go all the way around, but yes, the handles are crap. That reminds me, I still have to insure the 335.
Manfred-Klose Reinhard, why not build something? a home made guitar vault. Maby a vault like this: (yes it freaks out the way he is holding his les paul, les paul necks break easily, see the worry in his eye) or zakk wylde's fault:
Reinhard I think the first one is more security and the second one more protection on the road for touring bands. I remember reading a while back that one of the trucks on a Gibson road show was stolen with a boat load of guitars on board.
peters You are lucky to get your notebooks back, these items along with cellphones are instant resales, we have suffered a few breakins and the only thing nobody has touched are snowboards, sandboards, and surfboards.
