Taylor Big Baby Demo

Hey guys

I just received my Taylor Big Baby (LR Baggs micro Eq/ Ribbon mic) that I bought from Bob.

I was very impressed with the lined out sound.

So I made a little clip

Aubs : Yes , I kept the original gauge strings on them. Elixor Nanowebs I think / Phosphor Bronze or something

Yep. Nanowebs. 12s. And, yes, phosphor bronze.

Andrew, you make that guitar sound much better than I ever did. Very nice piece.

+1 to that Aubs. I have messed around with a few direct basic inputs.

The best I have done is record one track, then play that back and jam something over that... These guys add drums, multitracks, they sound so good! ?

I listened to AJBs recording with my HD Senheiser Headphones, Wow. It was spectacular. And i just thought to myself, I need to do that too.

And some nice details, like letting the strings ring early on when the percussive stuff is going on - and capturing the ringing. Very smart.

yeah brent but unless you have the time to learn the studio 'tricks' and learn to record well ..i'm sure andrew hasbuilt up years of experience in recording techniques..... and this takes time and effort ....... which could be spent learning to play better...... think thats why we have sound engineers and players............. not saying you can't do it but it does become asacrificeof playing to to learn software ect .... and like with playing music just cos you know the basics does not make you a great sound engineer........... and yeah andrews track was way better than average home recording ....... so the boy is multi skilled............ yeah for me i'd rather go to a studio than spend the time i could be composing on learning recording .....

anyway just a thought .....

Did you mic the Taylor as well or is it the LR Baggs?

Thanks for the kind words everyone *sniff*.

Squonk : I was going to mic up the Taylor with a Rode NT2 condensor mic, but I got lazy...
and once I heard the lined out sound coming through my "monitors" - old Pioneer Hi Fi speakers
I was happy

And that LR Baggs system gives it an authentic "mic"ed up sound rather than a lined out sound.
Thats why it gets fun doing the percussive stuff - Especially with some Hall Reverb.

The LR Baggs ribbon mic actually picks up the guitar's whole body sound , as apposed to just a lined out sound.

But yes, Im definately going to mic it up with the Rode, just to hear how different it sound.
