Your favourite OD/ Dist/ Fuzz Pedal

Hey guys My favourite subject in the world of guitars are dirt pedals - Overdrive, Distortion and FUZZ! So I'm wondering what you friendly fellow guitarforumnistas are using! ;D What are your favourites and why? What you using them for (lead, rythm, genre - metal, blues etc.)? It will be interesting to see what's the most popular on this forum. I'm betting TS-9/808 & DS-1. Anyone? Cheers, Mr M

Yeah, anything that saves you doing manual labour can only be a good thing. More time to PLAY. I sometimes think I spend more time obssessing about my tone than acually playing!

Just for interest sake, I found this pic of Lava Cables new prototype Solderless Right Angle plugs.

They aren't available yet, but apparently are going to cost around $7. The cool thing is Lava Cable don't use a screw for their solderless system.

Indeed it is! That, a Strat, a Small Stone phaser and a silverface Princeton Reverb were my sound in the late '80s. I see Fender are reissuing the blackface Princeton too. Hmm...

But $30 shipping from Canada to US? Ouch! I dread to think what the shipping to SA would be.

It's been 15 years, but memory tells me it's more like a Tubescreamer, but with less of a midrange hump.

Yeah a bit much. I find anywhere between $10 - $25 is reasonable for a pedal, depending on what it is.

Sorry, I know I'm talking about this brand again, but the MI Audio Blues Pro Overdrive is a really cool TS-type (same IC) with more gain and less of mid hump - http://www.miaudio.com/BP1.htm
It might be the ticket if you ever want to recreate your Tokai OD sounds. Or the MI Blue Boy Deluxe (just got too many controls for my liking).

I'm long past pedals. Changed to rack stuff in the '90s and software in the naughties and have never really looked back. I'll usually use amp models for drive and when I need something extreme for special FX, it will usually be a few Fuzzes.

If I were interested in going back to pedals and amp (highly unlikely), Id jump on it in a heartbeat (or get a Tube Screamer and modify it).

Weird. The norm seems to be guys who changed to rack gear in the 80's and went back to pedals in the 90's!

I couldn't. Just the fact that I have two signal paths (piezo and magnetic) means that I have to double up on pedals and amplification and makes it all too cumbersome. Sure, I lose a little vibe going software, but it does more than any rig I would be able to carry. Horses for courses.

Makes sense. Less to carry when your setup has multiple signal paths is definitely better, especially if you don't have your own personal road crew!

Has anyone ever used or tested the KRANK DISTORTION MAXIMUS. I watched a few clips on youtube and it sounds pretty hot.

Read a few reviews on it in the past & I'm not convinced.
The consensus seems to be that it doesn't have as much gain as it advertises. More of an overdrive than brutal distortion. Some guys say it works great into the OD of an amp, but isn't that besides the point of what the pedal is supposed to do? Once again, haven't tried it, just going on what I've read from user reviews.

You looking for something to replace your MD-2?

I'm thinking about it.
I was going to grab the VOX Bulldog as well, but they were sold out before I could get back to turnkey.

I'm looking out for one on ebay, but they are few and far apart, at a good price anyway. If I get rid of the MD-2 all my drive/OD/Fuzz pedals will be TB and I was thinking of putting them all behind one TB loop.

If I sell my Memory Man and Weeping Daemon, I'll be able to more pedals or get the Wah Probe. I'm leaning towards getting the Wah probe right now ?

Try Music Connection, Marshall Music and some of the Music Mates (specifically the one in Sandton City). One of them should have it.
