I've found a very affordable way that I can offer all the trusted members of this forum space to upload their recordings and link to them from any where without costing you guys a cent.
I'll provide an upload form and manually approve your first 1-3 uploads to be sure they're all original work and you're not using it as personal storage of your MP3 collection!
The catch is that you give me the licence to "broadcast" your recordings via the forum so visitors can hear your work. It's actually beneficial to the forum and to you personally as you can get some exposure while the forum also gets more visitors.
Would you guys be keen on that?

Sounds good (no pun intended). What does the file storage host get out of it.
NorioDS
I pay them ;D
It's a small investment so my company can cover it.

I have no problem with allowing you to broadcast recordings I upload. I consider all stuff that I upload as promotional anyway. What I do have a problem with is you having to pay for it. I get spammed with ads for free storage all the time eg

Sounds Good Norio....

I'm with Rene. Even if it's a small amount, there may come a time when it's money you don't have, and it may consequently put you in a difficult spot as far as keeping the site going.
I'm not sure about free file storage though - once again, I have to ask, what do they get from it? If it's like Rapidshare or freefilehost, they give the downloader crappy download capabilities until they subscribe for a fee.
How much space are we talking about here?
NorioDS
You can all rest at ease. I'll be using Amazon S3. I'm using it for some business services as well. The prices are really competitive and, for our few members, the cost will be barely noticeable!
NorioDS
They charge $0.15 per GB of storage and $0.10 per GB of transfer.
So if we stored 5GB of recordings (early-stages) and transferred 50GB of data per month (downloads, etc), it would still cost me less than R40 each month.
Trust me, I can afford R40 ;D
Perhaps I could cap the service at R150 per month -- that figure changing, of course, as and when the forum can afford more.
NorioDS
Actually, my calculations are a bit off. They charge $0.10 for bandwidth IN. They charge $0.170 per GB of transfers OUT. Still leaving the calculation at under R100 per month.
Still very affordable for me. I'm happy to be corrected but I do believe I've stumbled upon the holy grail ;D

... and how much would extra space on your hosting account cost? Doesn't that work out cheaper?
NorioDS
Not at all. It's damn expensive to host in SA and I don't want to move to the site to the US. This solution is perfect for video and audio files.
30DayChallenge.com has been using it for their videos for a while and the performance is good without costing an arm and a leg.

Norio it would be cool to upload songs.
I have a web site myself so I do not only think in terms of uploading my own songs, but I get frustrated very often here in the recordings section of the forum when I can not download songs listed there. I like your idea of the "broadcast" and would not mind making something available for you to broadcast.
