MikeM Hey guys So I am getting rid of my Ibanez as we have not bonded much. So far I have been offered a 79 reissue mij strat in anguia and a brand new mim tele. What is the going rates of these guitars nowadays? Cheers Mike
mattayou Mexican Strats/tele's go for about R 10 995 retail, but obviously music stores will give discounts off that depending on the store. Not sure of the Jap strats off hand. What Ibby do you have?
AlanRatcliffe The Antigua bursts aren't very popular because of the finish (typically nicknamed "pukebursts" or even "nappybursts"), but they are good guitars - typical Fender Japan quality (in some ways better than the original '70s Antiguas). Better guitar than a modern MIM, IMO tho... Last I saw, the Japanese Strats were about R12K (and that's when the MIMs were R7.5K) - so probably about R16 - 18K to get one new now.
AlanRatcliffe MikeM wrote Personally I like em a lot. I know guys that would rather have the Antigua than anything else, but they are definitely in the minority. You can see why:
andrewjbryson Go with the Strat I actually like the PukeBurst http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/msg/1374117877.html
chris77 I also like the antigua finishes. Then again, I have been known to wear formal shirts and sandals with my jeans, so my opinion shouldnt count...
Banditman Never seen a Gecko burst Les Paul Standard, have you. That looks like a sectioned avocado. Unsurprisingly only lasted for 2 years before they dropped it - should make them "rarities". Although some things are rare for a good reason.
