Anyone heard Andy Mc Kee and forgetwho Dafour?

If you have, is this 'ambient' music. Sure I've heard something similar on a yoga CD I have. These musicians are mindbogglingly good. Where have I been? Andy Mc Kee plays a harp guitar - I never knew these existed - when I checked seems like they're fairly commonplace. I find this all a fantastic development for acoustic guitar. It's wall to wall music ... But maybe not everybody's taste - some may regard it as musack ...

yeah it's antoine dafour and he's one of canada's best acoustic guitarists by far................

just go to you tube and there's tons of his vids there ..... he's on candyrat records ..... as is most of canada's and US's fingerstyle players

here's a clip of him just having fun ... i'll let you download his more serious stuff .. but i like this it's fun and also great skill

think i also watched some more informative vids of his where he explains his technique.........

i truly enjoy his style......

Andy Mckee is very well known around the world. I have all 3 of his albums. Last year he was voted 2nd best upcoming guitarist in the Acoustic Guitar Magazine. Which is quite an achievement.

The man writes great melodies ?

Many of the current bunch of young acoustic guitar hot shots remind me of Will Ackerman and the rest of the (then new) Wyndham Hill bunch in the 80s. Everything was dripping with great technique, beautifully executed and recorded - and it was all a bit of a technical exercise with no soul to it. Art for art's sake. There's no story, no tale to tell, no emotion to convey. Just sterile excellence. And it should be regarded as muscak and played in yoga classes.

Harpguitars have been around for a while. Robbie Robertson played on in the Last Waltz, and that was what? 1977? And that wasn't the first time I'd seen one.

yeah i know the harp guitar ........ and been a fan since michael hedges 1st played one...........

he's unfortunately passed away .......... and left a huge creative hole to fill in the acoustic community ... he is a fabulous musician... watch the clip he has a wicked sense of humour too... it' a piece by Bach ...and i would not call this musak as was refered to some other harp guitar players in an earlier post

Getting round to all the posts - Michael Hedges awesome - interesting that he plays the same piece that Genesis immortalised for the rock masses back in the 70's! So magical! Found the sound of his guitar a bit dull/flat but probly just the quality of the sound in the recording! Yip - crazy bout John mcLaughlin - Shakti. I wonder if those harpguitar strings resonate like the ones on sitars and McLaughlin's guitar. From what I understand that's what they're mainly for - these harp guitar strings seem for playing bass? Anyway will check it out! Thanks for info ...

n is another harp guitarist i like..... but he plays many of the more exotic instruments.....check this out.......

and the composer is fernado sor who was composing this music even before torres designed the 1st classical guitar as we know it .. mostly this music was played on a smaller forerunner to the guitar but also using 6 strings and not in pairs or courses as it used to be before........ the style is called "romantica guitar " i personally love sor's works...... truly a forerunner of the classical style as we know it .........

this second one is an example of a still exsisting 'romantic guitar' the forerunner to what we know as a classical guitar today...

In an interview in Guitar Player magazine (late last year), Andy McKee said that he absolutely adores Michael Hedges' and Billy McLaughlin's playing.
Fingerdance is a really good album to check out Billy's playing.
