vic I have recently noticed, what I think can be nothing else but scams, certain ads on Gumtree involving Gibson "Customshop" guitars. I responded to 2 of these, asking only for the serial numbers. The replies I received a few days later mentioned nothing about my query, only that monies must be paid to a certain business in Durban...! ??? There are other examples as well.....one was an ad for several guitars (Gretsch, Gibson, etc.) and other music equipment at LOW prices.....when I called I spoke to a person in Mpumalanga who knew VERY little about guitars etc. They do deliveries. You pay first of course! I am just wondering how many people have been caught by these thugs. >☹
CDee I also posted about it recently: http://www.guitarforum.co.za/general-discussion/warning-fyi/ It make my blood boil! >☹ >☹
chris77 If it sounds to good to be true, it is. Everybody likes a bargain and every now and then they pop up, but something that cheap is either stolen or fake. 13 G's for a new!, U.S.! Custom Shop! Gibson les Paul!!! is just not gonna happen. Ever. Another gripe I have is with ads misleading the public without actually lying. Squiers and Epis are Not Fenders and Gibsons! Thats like saying a Fiat is a Ferrari just cause its owned by the same Company. Huge diff. Also saw an ad with one guy selling a U.S. Custom Fender Strat.... and then explains that its not actually a Fender custom shop guitar, but rather one made with individual (fender?) parts and assembled America (Yah right....) So he basically wants 18 thou for a frankenstrat. And somewhere some poor sod will probably pay it, and thats just wrong.
