Ever wondered how many songs share the same chords?

Well the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain are here to help. They start with a piece by Handel (which most of them clearly want nothing to do with) and then....

And they do it again, with the jumping off point this time being David Bowie....

There's an excellent live DVD of these guys. Anarchy In The Ukulele. I think you can get it from Amazon. If that fails you can order it from
http://www.ukuleleorchestra.com/. They probably make a little more money if you buy direct from them.

Absolutely awesome - they do a great version of "You don't buy me flowers", which needs to be seen...

Seeing the UOGB was one of the highlights of our holiday this year. It's easy to get caught up in the humor of what they do, but there's a lot of good musicianship too, especially from the two star players in the band - George Hinchcliff and Richie Williams.

We saw them playing in a lovely church in Hampsted. There were three categories of seats. The organisers were kind enough to reserve us seats in the top category because of the distance we were travelling. So I don't know if the sort of upper crust don't laugh in public or if they were unfamiliar with the last 30 years or so of popular music, but I was just about bent double with laughter at some points of the show whilst all around me sat quietly and applauded politely. In particular there was the campfire singalong version of the Sex Pistol's "Anarchy In the UK" and a fabulous rework of Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights" - song by a bloke, a finger-popping 40s jazz arrangement, call and response chorus. Hilarious.

The toffs did seem to recognise "Smells Like Teen Spirit".
