I had a whole bunch of gear in my car and when I removed my GT8 to play I noticed the volume control was pushed into the chassis.
I opened her up to see and it was snapped right off the circuit board. I guess it's easy enough to fix if I get the part but where can I get it from? what a mission...
I'm going to speak to Glenwood Village Music (Bothners) now to see what they can do for me in so far as sourcing a part. maybe I should repair it then look at buying a second unit as a spar?
Also, fellow GT8 owners, where do you store or transport yours? It's not a nice problem to have.

The GT-10 has solved a lot of the problems by removing all the stupid, redundant knobs - the middle flywheel thing has always been the better way to operate the GT-8 menus anyway. I don't like the damage risks those excessive knobs pose...
I have a regular packing order for my stuff in my boot. A friend of mine has a proper Boss bag for his GT-8, but I never got one, so I'm pretty careful with how I store and pack it - that's about as much as I can do. At home it sits on top of my amp (sometimes under my cat, but that's another story), in my boot it's given its own space with nothing on top of it, and it's the last thing I plug in and put in place onstage because people ALWAYS stomp around like bulls in china shops, unconsciously driven to bugger up your power cable or jack plugs. Singers and drummers: dangers to us all.

Got a bag for mine. Works like a charm. You get the boss bags, but I have the "Gator" version.

i still have the box it came it with the foam casing thing. good protection.

Pretty common problem - most manufacturers using board mounted pots don't use nuts and washers to fix them to the chassis. A cost saving strategy that makes things like this likely if you knock them. It could be worse as it might have ripped copper traces from - or even broken - the PCB.
Any electronics place should have the pots (or close enough to replace it with). Bothner's workshop here in Cape Town keeps all the common pots for the Roland/Boss stuff, and Boss/Roland tend to design around a few different pots to keep spares simple. So Glenwood should be able to get you the right thing.

Well Glenwood have no idea. I'm going to look around an electronics shop today to see what I can find.

What Pot is it? My dad is a technition, he is located in the bluff, but he is obviously at spare shops all the time, i'm sure he could source you one.

huh?
DonovanB
Lol, ok obviously not. Who is your dad?
I tried A1 radio they had no clue. I'm going to look around some more.

If anyone has any doubts about how cool these pedals can be you have no idea the withdrawals I am going through without it. I am dying without it.... hectic stuff.
I was thinking of doing a small modification to prevent this from happening again. I want to put a small pot that is mounted on the chassis instead of the circuit mounted unit. I just need to do some measurements to make sure it can happen.

A blob of epoxy between the pot and the circuitboard helps.

I'm desperate now. I need someone in Cape Town to get the volume control from Bothner's and send it to me.
PM me if you can help. All I need is the part but I keep getting told to go to a technician. I REALLY need to fix this thing.
In the meantime I have bypassed the pot altogether but it needs to be back in working order pronto. :'(
AlanRatcliffe
You might be able to get it direct from them yourself. Just finding out for you now... give me 10 minutes.
AlanRatcliffe
OK. Just spoke to Andrew at Bothner's Workshop here in Cape Town and he says that shops usually contact them for parts, with no problem. He's a bit surprised that no-one seems to want to help you and has said you can contact him directly at workshopATbothnerDOTcoDOTza or 021 7994900 (then push 4 for workshop) and he'll sort you out himself.

My word, I called and I nearly started crying when I heard someone willing to help me.
Thanks Alan!! You're a legend. 8)
