Cellie Has anyone had any experience with a Martin Backpacker? http://more.take2.co.za/moreusa-martin-backpacker-steel-string-compact-acoustic-travel-guitar-b0002il37y.html I'm looking for something I can comfortably lug around - yes, even to work. ?
FenderBender There is a thread here so long http://www.guitarforum.co.za/guitar-gear/martin-backpacker-guitar/
Keira-WitherKay yeah i have researched travel guitars extensively and most have severe short comings ........... if you follow graeme's link he posted above you will see my post there too.......... the best travel guitars are electrics...NOT acoustics........ but then you need to carry an amp or use headphones.... so i have given up on travel guitars..( and i do travel the world so i have good reason to own one) in favour of a small bodied acoustic in a case....... maybe even a parlour guitar would be smaller..... but when you travel ...... the trick is not size ............ everyone thinks it's to make a small guitar ......... but it's weight ........... since a traveller in economy is only allowed 20 kg total baggage and thats nothing ....... and even if you have a fold up acoustic or electric to fit in your baggage they sound thin and unappealing to play........ so i invested in a descent but lightweight flightcase 3.2 kg( skb cases and TKL cases are extremely lightweight but strongand travel tested) and a nylon acoustic ....... which weighs just over 1.4 kg and i have a guitar and case that only weighs 5 kg and i get a warm fat sound....... travel guitars well most of em are like drummers practise pads..they ok for rehearsal and to keep you playing but you can't really use em professionally and all the acoustics sound thin and weak because of the reduced size in the sound box........maybe the electric travel guitars are cool to use for more than a hotel room.. but how much does the amp weigh????????????????????? peace and light Keira
