but lik all beginners im having problems like when im trying to hold down more than two strings on a fret. it seems lik im pressing for dear life.also from what i read from a book it says that my thumb should be on the lower back part of the fret board so my fingers can move wider but i see alot of people with there fingers high up.should i play which ever way feels right.by the way i use tabs still learning to read music.
In general the idea is that you want the thumb to be helping with the downwards pressure that your fingers are producing. Ideally this would mean thumb resting more or less on the centre line of the neck and neither behind nor ahead of the rest of the hand. There are times when it's valid or necessary to have the neck in the vee between thumb and forefinger, possibly even with the thumb fretting the 6th string, but don't worry about that yet. Learn to use the thumb as it should be used - to oppose the fingers. You can learn when and how to break that rule later ?
Most people learning the guitar experience the problems you're describing. Feels like you're pressing hard and difficulty with holding multiple strings. This is partly a function of your hand not being used to playing guitar.
It may also be that your guitar is not properly setup and the action is too high.

A good bet right now is to take some lessons with a teacher who has a good reputation, or at the least to seek some guidance from a friend who can play a bit. Even if you do not want to persist with lessons, take some now to get some of the rudiments sorted out.
