When you buy a new guitar and bring her home to your family of guitars... do you give her a name? How do you decide on a name?
I got my first REAL guitar Wednesday... an Ibanez GSAS26FM-TKS. She is transparent Black sunburst... looks very evil so I dubbed her "ALICE"! Starting with the A-letter as she is my first love!

Yes, totally. Sometimes somebody has said, "That looks like a .....", and sometimes the name has just come to me spontaneously.
Lank kitsch, but my main guitar is called Luther. I've had a Gavin, a Flo (after Florence Griffith-Joyner, because she was fast!), a Pablo... And now I'm currently deciding on a name for my newest guitar.

Only one of my guitars has a name - a Yamaha nylon string called "Spiderman". I bought it from a guy in the UK on eBay. For some reason he wrapped the parcel in Spiderman gift paper. It was delivered to a friend in the UK, who brought it back. The guitar has been "Spiderman" ever since.

I actually don't normally, but I so should!

None of mine have names. They are "the Morgan", "the Smoothalker" etc Guitars an inanimate objects. I like them, I appreciate them, they may be special, but mine don't get names.
chris77
Same as Keira. They are always female, but anonymous.

As a young man I did - but once I sold Olglethorpe Algernon Ratcliffe I (esq), I realised I was maybe being a bit silly and they've gone by manufacturer or model name since. ?
I generally think of different guitars as being male or female though...

As a matter of fact, I'm thinking of naming my Foto Flame Strat, "That which gives me so much trouble I'm going to go all Pete Townshend on its Floyd Rosy ass". I think it has a nice ring to it.

Strange idea this!
No I don't give them names, but I've slipped into the habit of refering to electric guitars in the male gender, acoustics in the female and my bass I call it. I wonder what a psychologist would make of it?

Well, My car has a name. I always thank Honey for a nice drive. That is realy weird I know. I don't know why I haven't given my guitar a name. The name Truda just popped into my head. Can't argue with a Truda.

...but is it mean ?
I also used to name my cars, but it was usually when they broke down and the names aren't suitable for mention on a family forum ?

My car goes by the name of The Silver Bullet. My axe goes by the name Oblitorator, Redeemer, Facemelter or Headexplosion, depending on the consequence of listening to me playing her 8)

I have never thought of giving my guitars names.....maybe I should have a competition and offer a set of strings or a couple of my "famous" shark-fin plectrums as a prize for the most original ideas for names.....Hahahahaha.......until then, they are the Strat, the Tele, the Jem, the JS, the PRSs etc.....good enough names for now, I think...... 8)

Same as Aubs. Except that I only have two guitars ? The RG and the Artist. No genders. Always it. "It plays well." To me it's a tool. A tool I love very much, but none the less a tool.
Guy-Onraet
I'm with Lethe. No names, no genders. Just some wood and wires.

Start the competition!!! ?

.......... Just some wood and wires.
Some beautifully cut and polished wood, (some rather rare, and not so rare trees have given their lives), and some rather beautiful sounding wires........(depends who's plucking them.......) hahahahaha ? ?
