Linden - Espresso Jazz

Well, as part of me leaving, one of my friends dragged me out of the home and said 'before you go, come have a listen', so we headed for Espresso in Linden and listened to 'naming james' and 'some grow young.' And I must say, it was quite lekke. Something totally different from what I normally listen to at live events.

Small (VERY), venue, but it was nice and intimate. Food is CHEAP. Drinks are O.K (normal JHB prices apply). But overall, it was a very nice evening. I have come to realize that I'm not 25 anymore.. ☹ :'( >☹

What kind of Jazz? I want to get my wife interested, but I think the scary stuff will put her off for good ??? She is a Celine Dion fan if you Know what I mean!

I cant even remember what I was doing when I was 25, that was in 1988 :-[

The establishment is called "Espresso Jazz" but it's not a specifically Jazz venue.

One of the bands that plays there fairly regularly is "Them Particles". Fab band. Headed up by Dax Butler who the ou rookers will remember from bands like "The Other Band" and "The Sons of Gaddaffi Bar Mitzvah Band".

They have an accordeon and a lap steel player and also add things like penny whistle and mandolin into the mix.

Highly recommended.

Cool I'm going to look it up. I love Live music of anyform... except a few of the radical stuff. anything thats easy listening is pleasing to me. Cool thanks

@Squonk.. The acts I saw last night was mainly folk orientated. 1st guy was doing solo acoustic (naming james), the other guy (some grow young) was a guy on acoustic backed up with a bloke on a Tele. It was my 1st time there, so I'm not too sure what they normally have there. But the house music being played over the system is mostly easy jazz.. (or thats what was playing when I was there)

But it's tiny venue, but VERY intimate. So quite lekke if it's a 2 piece or something light!!

One of the first places I played at was Cafe Carte Blanche. It is the very meaning of intimate. The sometimes have Two piece bands play there but it's always so crowded, but people are nice and squeeze in. Once it was so funny. I had been playing behind a couple having dinner. I obviously blended in quite well with the furniture, because I gave the person infront of me a fright when he turned around. He thought I was the sound system. It must have been captivating conversation because I was RIGHT behind him.

Come on Squonk I'm sure you can remember what you were doing in 1988. I can. I was most likely finding a way to play games with my sister who is 4 years older than me. I ended up cleaning her room most of the time.
