Digitech Hardwire range seems VERY COOL and true bypass ?
looks like solid pedals with ALOT of thought behind them and when i tested one through an orange it sounded MASSIVE

then you need something low wattage and maybe just one overdrive pedal.
If you have narrowed it down to a few amps and pedals you might want to own oneday, go check out youtube there's loads of videos with gear demo's.
Also try and keep in budget, some amps can get expensive.

Also test amps out at your local musc shop, to train your ear how to listen to what sounds best for you.

What about the clean tones of Mark Knopfler and Robert Cray. I can almost get these sounds with my Peavey T60.
But I am using my POD through the PA System. Will a tube amp improve the sound? Or do I need to acquire a Fender Strat as well?

You using a compressor? Fairly important to many of the early Dire Straits Knopfler stuff.

The T-60's are great guitars - very innovative and capable of getting quite a wide range of tones from fatter, chunkier stuff through skinny single-coil sounds (when the tones are turned up) and funky OOP (Out Of Phase) sounds, but they are all fairly unique tones. It'll do a reasonable facsimile of many sounds, but never quite nail Strat or Les Paul tones IMO.

you dont need to spend money on a strat if you dont want to, squiers strats is alot cheaper and also gets the job done.

a pod through a PA system works fine, chances are you can get more popular tones this way, aldough adding a tube amp can give you some dynamics and warm up the signal.

So its all down to experimenting and see what works for you.

(Can't wait to get my amp going and then testing different OD/Distortions with it.... ? ?)

Does that Maxon really make the tone better for the 5150? Ive got one but never used it live.. never liked the tone much? But then Ive never tried it with low amp gain and booster pedal..

I've tested out the old boss DS-1 last night again.

Through the clean it gives a very bright and "happy(70's type)" drive sound(bad company ??)
Through the pre amp channel it sounds like the earlier stuff from joe satriani.

It's to trebly for me.

Blue Boy Deluxe with a little RAT for lead into a hand wired 1969 Teisco checkmate 25 EL84 driven tube amp!
Custom built 4x10 jensen cab (59 bassman replacement drivers)
Highway1 strat with rosewood board and loaded with Texas Specials!

On the 5150 do you you use the rhythm channel or lead channel?
I find the lead channel a bit 'thinner' ?

sIMPLE a ts808 or clone OR BD2/ mi audio blues pro into a proco rat or a fuzz face or a good clone (mxr fuzz 108) into a fender amp (tube)
For the style its AMAZING.

I don't use any...! I love the sound on my Blackstar, both the clean and drive channels.

Only pedal I do use is a Digitech Hardwire Delay.

The type of sound is pretty much old school blues and rock, although quite capable of going into higher gain stuff easily.

Agree with your DS-1 impressions, on my setup it was trebleoverdrive, part of the reason I flogged it. I want to try my TS-10 into your tube amp next Graemestock. Was thinking of suggestion a 'gear hour' where we can showcase different pedals/equipment etc Hopefully I'll have the Crunch Box by then ?

Blue Boy Deluxe into a vintage style low wattage amp...30-50w. Bassman or DrZ and always a 4x10 open cab.
Thats the best sound i get!
