How many Robery Cray fans are there on the Forum?

I dig Cray's tone and his playing.
I first heard of him was in the 80's , I think "Strong Persuader", there was a catchy little pop song "Right next door" which was about some guy who ruins people's marriages!

Robert Cray is right up there with SRV, Clapton, Gary Moore and BB King. Just that he sounds a little cleaner than the other blues guitarists takes nothing away from the fact that he is one of the great. The one thing I think he outdoes the other in is the phrasing in his solo's, brilliant.

Right Next Door is, like 80% of his lyrics, about him committing adultery. It is about a single marriage he wrecks this time, however. Just listen to any of his albums and you will wonder if this guy does anything other than play guitar and fool around with women.

He's got that lovely, wirey Strat sound. I'm a sucker for that. Knopfler had it too early on. Richard Thompson still has it. Buddy Holly had it. It's the foundation of the Hendrix sound really.

There was a big-ish hit off that album. Had the word "gun" in the title. Unusually the song was about Cray's woman cheating on him.

Are there any live recordings. The albums I have heard had too much studio gloss on them, I'd have liked something a little less squeaky clean.

"Smokin Gun" - I think

Had Strong Persuader and think it is still oneof his best.

The way he sounds on the record is the way he sounds on stage. Saw a performance of his on TV about two years after "Strong Persuader" and recently he appeared on a Clapton Crossroads DVD and I haven't heard even a hint of overdrive and just a tiny little bit of reverb.
Of all (blues) guitarists I'd also say he has the best voice.
